Room 23

Students in Room 23 have been learning about mapping. We followed directions using a map of the school, with grid references, to answer questions related to location and direction. After that, students created their own directions for a friend to follow. We all had a lot of fun learning about the importance of writing specific directions for others to follow.

A few weeks ago, students selected their own novels from the library. We completed a variety of tasks using a 6 Thinking Hats choice board. All students have demonstrated independence, creativity, and responsibility. We look forward to using these skills next year!

Room 24

This term in Room 24 we have been using cooperative learning techniques to learn about ‘Character Strengths’. We have developed an understanding of the character strengths we have and how to use them in certain situations.

Character strengths are the positive parts of your personality that impact how you think, feel, and behave. They are the keys to you being your best self.

Character Strengths are:

  • Curiosity
  • Gratitude
  • Grit – which is like Resilience
  • Optimism
  • Self-Control – Emotional Self-Control & Self-Control with schoolwork
  • Social Intelligence
  • Zest – which is like Enthusiasm

When things are going well, we can use character strengths to help us see the best in ourselves and others. When things aren’t going well, we can use character strengths to give balance to the problems we face and to shift our focus from negative to positive. We can grow positive aspects of character, and learn from, and change negative aspects.

We learnt that character strengths are valued by all cultures and are something we all need for our whole life.

Room 25

We were lucky enough to have our open classroom last week where we could show all the work we have done to our parents. They were very amazed at our achievements. Our class was invited to the tree planting ceremony with Dr Jags. Some of us even got to help measure the soil for it to be planted. We can’t wait to see this tree grow with us over the next few years at Burrendah.

Slime, greenscreens, and designing scarecrows… imagine all the fun we’ve had in Year 3. We are so proud of ourselves for working hard on improving and showing teamwork this year. Some of the wonderful activities we did were making pizzas, designing parachutes, using the iPads, working with our buddy class, using flexible seating and so much more. Have a look at our photo highlights from this year!

Room 26

In Maths this term, we have designed and made board games to practice our times tables.

In Technology, we have fine-tuned our critical and creative thinking by modifying, adapting and substituting things on animals we know to create new animals with very interesting purposes.

In English, we have been writing narratives for our class library. We have also been writing poetry. We have learnt about alliteration and have tried cinquains and limericks.

For news this term we have talked about our favourite music/musicians, and we have taught the class a magic trick.

Room 28

What an amazing Term 4 we are having.  We have been learning so much and making sure that we are all ready for the move to Year 4 next year.  We hope you enjoy reading and seeing some of the amazing things that we have been doing in Room 28.

Faction Assembly with Alton Walley

We were very lucky to have Alton Walley come to a Faction Assembly this term.  We were sad that he could not make it to our NAIDOC Week Assembly, but we all brought in our fantastic NAIDOC shirts.  With Room 25, we lead the school in singing the National Anthem and also Wanju which was amazing.  We even had some sneaky photos with Alton afterwards.

EduDance

We have been having so much fun learning our fantastic dance for EduDance.  Our dance is very fast paced and we are worn out after our sessions. We are getting very good at our moves and can’t wait for everyone to see us at our concert.

Measuring with Mrs Nichols

Mrs Nichols has been teaching us all about the different ways that we can measure.  We have been waiting all term to get outside and put our skills to the test, however it always seems to rain on Thursdays.  Lucky for us, Thursday in Week 7 was nice and sunny. We ventured out and measured to our full extent.  Who knew Maths could be this fun?

Paper Chain STEM Challenge.

We were put to the test with our Paper Chain STEM Challenge.  With only our glue sticks, scissors and one sheet of A4 paper, we had to make the longest paper chain that we could.  All of the different strategies were amazing to see.  We had very small links, very big links, very thin links and many more.  The most interesting fact was the longest chain did not have the most links.  Who would have thought?

Open Classroom and Tree Planting

We had an amazing time showing our families all of the fantastic work that we have been doing this year.  They were able to come into the classroom and see our work and then enjoy the sunshine outside while looking through our books.  We were even able to show off our Green Screen skills and took our families on a fun adventure.  Dr Jags came to our open classroom too and we all helped him plant a tree thanks to the Queen’s Jubilee Funding.
