From the   Principal's

Janine Kinninment

Congratulations to Madeline who won a voucher for a new bike from Dr Jags on Wednesday.  It was wonderful to see so many students and parents/carers walking/riding or scooting to school with Dr Jags.

Parent National Schools Opinion Survey 2022

Our Parent National Schools Opinion Survey results demonstrate a high level of satisfaction with the school as shown in the graph below.  The Board will be looking more in-depth at the feedback provided early in Term 1, 2023 as part of our future planning.

NAPLAN 2022

Burrendah PS continued to achieve very pleasing results for NAPLAN. We again were above like schools for every area both in Year 3 and Year 5. Congratulations to the students and staff involved in this wonderful result. NAPLAN will be held in Weeks 7 and 8 of Term 1, 2023. Students in Years 2 and 4 are becoming more familiar with using iPads to be prepared for the online format of this national test.

Holiday Maintenance

We have a number of projects being completed over the vacation break commencing from Friday 16th December 2022.  Reception will be closed on this date. All staff and students will finish school on Thursday 15th December with staff trading off time.  For any urgent inquiries, South Metro Education Regional Office can be contacted by phone at 9336 9563.

Over the holiday break, we will be replacing all of the wet area vinyl floors in Cygnet, Magpie, and Swan Blocks. The air conditioners in transportable Rooms 14, 12, and 1 will be replaced with split air conditioners. The basketball court surface will be replaced and the Nature Playground will be built.

Staffing Update

As many of you are aware Mrs Bonser will be going on maternity leave at the end of this term. We wish Mrs Bonser and her husband the very best as they commence life as new parents. Mrs Bell will be retiring at the end of this year.  Mrs Bell has been a part of Burrendah PS for many years with the last few years working in the EAL/D team.  We wish Mrs Bell the very best in her retirement. Mrs Turner will be working just at Riva PS from next year with an increase in her work days in Kindergarten. We wish Mrs Turner the very best and will miss her working at Burrendah PS. These teachers have worked tirelessly at Burrendah PS and we thank them for their many years of dedication to our school community.

Ms Sutherland will be returning from maternity leave in a part-time role.  We look forward to Ms Sutherland being back at Burrendah PS in 2023.

Covid Update

We are still experiencing some cases of Covid in the school community. While these cases are small in number, I urge the school community to take appropriate health precautions based on your family circumstances. The Department of Education is returning to pre-Covid cleaning levels for 2023.  This will mean additional cleaning hours and funding will cease at the end of this year.
