0ne-two-rful 1/2s

Term 4 Week 6 2022 - Friday 11th November

What have we been up to?

What a WONDERFUL fortnight it has been for our ONE-TWO-RFUL students! Last week the 1/2‘s had two big adventures; Scienceworks and the Gould League. At Scienceworks, they got to explore all the different sections, including a show on Toys and Forces. It was great to see the students having fun and making classroom to world connections. We learnt that push and pull forces are everywhere and affect the way different things move all around us! At the Gould League, students had lots of hands on, fun-filled activities learning about the environment around them. They got to take part in a show, observe worms and minibeasts under a microscope, and learn about animal life cycles. Let’s not forget that gurgling Shrinking Machine that turned us into mini humans in a compost bin!

Despite our adventures, learning did not cease within the four walls of our classrooms. In Reading and Writing, students continued to learn about explanation texts. They have been working hard to create their own explanation pieces on an animal of their choosing. In Maths, students concluded their revision on addition and subtraction strategies. They learnt that counting on, doubles and using number lines are helpful tools when solving problems. This week, they also began their revision into multiplication, looking at how arrays, skip counting and number lines can help them to solve multiplication equations. Inquiry saw students looking at landmarks around the world, investigating how they were built, what their purpose is and what makes them significant to the countries they are found in.

What’s coming up next?

Reading

In Reading, students will continue to develop their comprehension skills with a specific focus on how to find information within non-fiction texts, through answering literal and inferential questions.

Writing

In Writing, students will revise the structure of a Narrative. They will revise the language features, text structure, and work on writing their own Narrative.

Maths

In Maths, students will review Time. They will practise telling time to the hour, minute and 5 minute intervals. They will also continue working towards achieving their academic and class WIGS which are also linked to Maths.

Inquiry & Science

In Inquiry, students will continue their exploration into the purpose and significance of key landmarks around the world. To finish off the unit, students will begin to plan and design their own special landmark for Le Page Primary School. In Science, students will continue their physical science unit on Forces. They will dive deeper into push and pull forces. Specifically how different objects move in water and air, and the role gravity plays in how they move.
