Music

Congratulations to the Prep students who were awarded their Beat Detective Badges this week! The preps have worked very hard towards these badges and have demonstrated a good ability to move in time with the beat, conduct a beat and play and sing in time with the beat. Well done to all the prep musicians!

The Grade 1/2’s have begun working on their singing performance for the Family Picnic. They have also had fun playing the game Poison Rhythm and they are becoming very hard to eliminate!

The Grade 3/4’s have been progressing well with their recorder playing. Well done to those students who have now achieved their yellow belt!

The Grade 5/6’s have been diligently preparing for performance at the Year 6 Graduation. They have also been working on their ukulele playing and progressing through the Black Belt Ukulele program and can now play songs whilst changing chords. Well done- you are sounding fantastic!

Visual Arts

Last week in Visual Arts, I only got to see Foundation and 3/4 students due to Curriculum Day and Melbourne Cup Day.

The Foundation and years 3/4 students were able to create ‘Giving and Gratitude Flowers’ for our Leadership Day to give a little gift to our community as they come and see our school on the 1st of December. They drew flowers with oil pastels and then painted them with water colour paints. Once they were dry, together we brainstormed words that related to leadership, giving and gratitude: What does it mean to be a leader? How do you feel when you help someone? How do you feel if you give or get a gift? Students were then able to write a word on the back of each giving and gratitude flower.

This week, we discussed the significance of Remembrance Day and why we acknowledge and pay our respects to those who fought in the war. Students were able to make their own poppy so it can be placed under our flags at our Remembrance Day Ceremony on Friday 11th. Foundation and 1/2 students made poppy wrist bands. Years 3 to 6 students were able to choose what they would like to make to represent a Remembrance Day art piece.

Year 6 students continued to work on their ‘Leaving Your Mark’ art project. Which are starting to look fabulous, still watch this space.

Culture Studies

This week in Culture Studies, we continued to learn about Greek culture, by looking at famous landmarks in Greece such as the Acropolis of Athens, The Parthenon, which is the temple that was made for Athena the goddess that sits on top of the Acropolis, Metora - meaning a temple that is 'suspended in air', Mount Olympus which was regarded as a gathering place of the gods, Navagio Beach and the Temple of Olympian Zeus. Foundation students listened to step-by-step instructions on how to draw the Parthenon. Year 3 to 6 students were able to choose to draw or make a 2D or 3D model of the Parthenon out of icy pole and matchsticks.

Library

Dear parents, carers and school community.

I am so excited to announce that Le Page Primary School will host its first Scholastic Book Fair from Monday, the 28th of November, to Friday, the 2nd of December.

The fair will be set up in thelibrary area in the BER building and open every day from 8.30-9am and 3.30-4pm

Scholastic is providing us with books, posters and others items that will be on sale. There will be something for everybody: picture books, chapter books, activity books and more.

The market will be fully cashless, therefore you will need to bring a credit card or phone to pay for items. It will not be open during school hours and children will not be able to buy items unaccompanied. A share of all sales will go straight back to Le Page; this fair will be a wonderful fundraising opportunity whilst also allowing families to have a look at books together and maybe even buy some early Christmas gifts.

All children have received a flyer with information that should be in their bags. If you are not able to attend but would still like to buy items, there is information about the online ordering process on the back of your child's flyer.

I hope to see you all there and happy reading!

PE and Health

During the last two weeks of PE all students have been working on understanding and developing the skills of cricket to coincide with the T20 World Cup. All classes started with the very difficult skill of bowling where students have difficulty understanding the idea of bowling with a straight arm, but they all tried really hard and showed some good development and understanding.

We then moved onto catching, fielding and throwing and finally this week students had a go at batting. The students did a great job with their batting using very good cricket technique, rather than trying hit like baseball, and were very effective, I was very impressed with their efforts.

Also students in grade 3-6 started with Bike Education programs. All 3-6 students started with an in classroom presentation and discussion about bike safety and what that means when riding a bike around the community, including on the footpath, car parks and roads and then moved onto a practical session where they did a thorough bike safety checklist finishing off with some riding skills. This safety check was great as we were able to identify some issues with some bikes that needed fixing before we go out and start riding on the bikes.

The students are very excited about this program and it was great to see so many having a great time on their bikes. Hopefully this will encourage more students to be active and maybe even ride to and from school.

For Health, students continued to learn about different body parts. After looking at the circulatory system students looked at the respiratory system and the skeletal system with some classes moving onto the muscular system. It very exciting to see the students learning about how their body works and why it is important to look after their health.
