Magis report

Congratulations and warmest thanks to all teachers and students who participated in the Magis Gifted and Talented student program in 2021. It has been a year highlighted by record numbers of competitors in virtually all Interschool House, and John XXIII events run by Magis,  many outstanding interschool results particularly in Creative Edge, Da Vinci Decathlon, Ethic Olympiad  and WA Debating Legue,  and a very successful Magis camp with double the number of participants. The Intergenerational program was another highlight along with the seminar breakfasts and Bell Shakespeare, and it is hoped that several of our regular highlights such as World Scholar’s Cup, Julie Arliss and Global Goals will finally return in 2022.

2022 will also see the introduction of Magis Chess and Shakespeare Clubs and  the Rottnest Shakespeare camp, whilst an enhanced series of Academic Seminars will be offered with some outstanding speakers. It is also exciting that numbers for the Year 7 Magis elective have virtually doubled for 2022.

Parents and past students are also invited to assist with the Magis program in 2022.  If you are able to coach an interschool gifted and talented team in debating, Da Vinci Decathlon, Public Speaking, Ethics Olympiad or World Scholar’s Cup, please contact me.  This also applies if you would like to speak at any Magis Breakfast.

Finally, a few Term 1 dates have now been confirmed for 2022: Seminar Breakfasts and other Magis  events will be announced at the start of Term 1.

Term 1

  • Magis Academic Spelling Homeroom Challenges – Week 4
  • Julie Arliss Seminar:  Monday 15 March
  • WADL Debating begins week 7
  • Magis Mental Maths Homeroom challenges – Week 8
  • John XXIII Public Speaking heats – Week 9

Please note that Da Vinci Decathlon has moved to Term 2 – 4-5 May.

We look forward to another great year in 2022.
