Year 7 NBC Scholarships

In 2021-22, our first scholarship group was challenged with planned events and opportunities being consistently postponed or cancelled due to COVID restrictions, shifts to remote learning and an unrelenting focus on delivering a high-quality return to our college onsite curriculum.

We have identified several 2022 projects and experiences that align to the Aspiration Plans of our 2021-2 Year 7&8 Scholarship Group.  These include: Victoria Police careers and recruitment presentations and engagement with tertiary providers including Deakin University and the Gordon TAFE.  We have already completed an entrepreneurial program called Social Innovators with the Crazy Ideas College team.  This was held at the Geelong Tech School in early June.

Our 2021-22 Scholarship group, are currently Year 8 students from all four of our Junior Campuses who continue to be supported in their Year 8 studies in 2022.  This talented and high achieving group are as follows:

Our 2022-23 Year 7&8 Scholarship Group was selected during Semester 2 2021.  2021-22 Scholar Zin Zin Htay Thu served on the selection panel with Challenge Committee Chair Ken Harrison and College Assistant Principal Ken Massari and offered the following reflection:

Sitting on the scholarship panel for the first time in my life was amazing. However, being at a different school made me feel a bit nervous.  After meeting some of the lovely students their kindness had encouraged me to feel more comfortable and I enjoyed meeting all of them. I loved seeing all the students come in one by one expressing themselves and telling us what goals they had for the future. They all had such different inspiring stories to tell and goals to reach. I hope that the scholarships help motivate them to strive to achieve their goals.

Introducing the 2022-23 Scholarship group, the students listed below are currently engaged in Year 7 studies across each of our four Junior Campuses.  We look forward to seeing their achievements and how they tackle new learning as we dive into a range of experiences over the next two years.  We aim to ensure that each student continues to develop the skills to identify and realise their aspirations:

During Term 3 of 2022, The Challenge Committee will open the process to identify our 2023-24 NBC Year 7&8 Scholarship group.  Students currently in Year 6 will be invited to apply, based upon their academic achievements, alignment to College values, attendance, aspirations and character qualities.
