Welcome

Welcome

Our Northern Bay Challenge Newsletter aims to keep members of our wider NBC Challenge community updated with work that is happening at our college and through he programs that are directly funded by The Challenge.

Excitingly this year The Challenge is supporting the introduction of The Our School Alumni program. Later in this edition you will be introduced to Alison Meredith our Alumni Program Coordinator.

Northern Bay College Update

Through all that 2022 has thrown at our school community we still have so many positive events and outcomes to celebrate. Please see below just a very short snapshot of the exciting work happening across our college.

GROWTH - Goldsworthy Building Project

We have talked about it and talked about it and finally it started. On Tuesday the PLAN building group arrived on-site to set up their work space and begin their work on the rebuilding project that will transform our Goldsworthy Campus over the next 18 months. This is such a huge moment in time for our school as the facilities of our senior campus will finally reflect the quality of learning opportunities available at our school and symbolically reflect the importance with which education should be looked upon across our community.

The completion of this stage of building is truly a most significant outcome for the college and wider community and we hope to attract a potential funding partner to further develop aspects of this project - most notably the extension of the Performing Arts space from 240 seat venue to a 500 seat venue.

Please look out for further updates on this Landmark project.

COLLABORATION - Inaugural Student Wellbeing Camp

Over the June school holidays, members of our amazing college-wide Student Wellbeing team hosted a camp for a group of our students at our Staughton Vale school camp site. This is a wonderful initiative which allowed for the development of  relationships with students across our college, further develop bonds across our campuses and support our students to focus on themselves and the further realisation of their own personal development goals.

The team implemented a most successful program with students and staff alike reflecting with great enthusiasm of their experience.

GROWTH - Student Outcomes - Time to Celebrate

It is so exciting to share some data that well and truly demonstrate the hugely positive impact that our collective work has had on learning gains for our students.

The data set below relates to the growth our students achieve during their first 4 years of schooling. The graph below demonstrates the dramatic gains our students make in Reading from entering Prep (English Online Interview) to their first NAPLAN Reading test. The graph separates students who are considered educationally advantaged and disadvantaged - and as the graph shows students across both groups make huge gains whilst almost eliminating any learning gap between these two cohorts of students. This achievement has been recognised by the DET and certainly suggests that as a college we should be very proud.

SEED Video launch

We are in the process of developing updated video content for our Website highlighting the great practice and programs across our school. Please take a look our latest offering which highlights the hugely popular and successful SEED program.
