Let's Celebrate!

Plus some great writing!

Celebration Day

Due to unavoidable circumstances, we have had to change the date for Celebration Day. It has been brought forward by one day to Wednesday, 24th November.

On this day we will celebrate the social, academic and sporting achievements of the children in our school. We will also present some entertainment in the form of songs, a play, gymnastics and keyboard playing.

We are also very excited to be providing (at no cost to parents and carers), a three-course formal lunch on the day.

The Student Representative Council (SRC) have chipped in $50 and the school and staff will cover other costs. Staff will act as wait staff and the children will be formally seated at a communal table and served a selection of foods which will cater to all dietary needs.

Please still provide a fruit or vegetable snack on the day for our fruit break.

We look forward to a COVID free year in 2022, when parents and carers will be able to join us in these celebrations. We will be taking photos to send to parents after the event.

Please ensure your child/ren wear the current school uniform (light blue).

Paint Sample Poetry

On Friday last week Miss Fish and the senior class did some interesting work with paint samples. Yes, actual paint samples! The children looked at the unusual and creative names used on the samples and created colourful poetry with them. The results were really quite amazing and the children really enjoyed making and writing them.

Eggselent Writing (Sorry Sonic…)

Last week the senior class looked at the world of reporters… and puns! (Sonic was particularly disturbed by them... Must have some good ones at home!)

We talked about the way news reporters speak as they report news, claiming authority through their presentation.

We also looked at puns (aka Dad/ Mum jokes) and interestingly, there were enough groans in the room as we read the story to show that there are a lot of bad jokes out there! Well done Dads and Mums! Many of the children could identify the really bad word play and explain how it works.

Here are a couple of examples of the writing we did in response to this activity. We focussed on Nursery Rhymes.

Hi. I’m Sonic Jones, Storyville’s most trusted reporter and I’m coming to you live with a bleating good story.

Earlier this morning the black sheep was taking wool to the little girl as normal, but some say that the wool was not black, but blonded! ….

Now, although this is looking bad for Baa Baa, there is hope, for lots of people are taking Baa Baa’s side in this sheepnanigan, but then again, it’s a live or dye situation.

Sonic Jones, Storyville’s most trusted reporter.

That wasn’t a baaad story and think we all feel a bit sheepish about that talent Sonic displays! Wool he ever write for us again? We wait with baaaited breath.

Also, some more breaking news:

This is Hattie Cay. Today we’re at the scene of Incy Wincy Spider to warn him today’s weather is raining. So, will Incy Wincy Spider get up the waterspout? Let’s see.

Hello Incy Wincy Spider. Will you be climbing up the spout today?

Yes, because I need to get to my family. Oh oh! It’s raining!

So, I guess you can’t today.

This is Hattie Cay, going live. See you back in the studio for more information.

What a web of lies the weather report can be… Poor Incy Wincy. Let’s hope he can get to his family soon. Thanks, Hattie for that fascinating report. If we redback that report to you, I’ll bet you’d feel proud!
