Earlier this term, Ms Richards and Mr Gesundheit took their year 9 Media Studies students on a photographic excursion to the Botanical Gardens and Southbank. Students explored these areas through the lens of a camera. Many students had never been to the gardens before so it was a fantastic opportunity to explore one of the city’s unique gardens. Students took a variety of photographs and appreciated seeing the diverse variety of plants. They then had the chance to have lunch at Southbank and point their lenses at people, buildings, bridges, bikes and other things uniquely Melbourne. A great day was had by all. Thank you to Ms De Leon and Mr Tran for assisting on the day.

Year 10

Students from the year 10 Media – Film class travelled into the city this term and spent the day at ACMI (Australian Centre of the Moving Image). They learnt about the science fiction genre and they then had the opportunity to make their very own sci-fi film. They only had a short period of time to prepare, shoot and edit their films. They were lucky enough to film around Federation Square. They used costumes, a green screen and recorded their very own soundtrack. The result was great and the students had a lot of fun!

3in6 2016

This year’s 3in6 film competition drew over 80 students from years 7-11. Students were given two clues and they had the entire day to complete and submit their films. This year the clues were revealed in a film made by the judges. The main star of the film was Mr Zimmerman. He was trying to photocopy something but the machine wasn’t responding. Mr Zimmerman became so frustrated that when he was leaving he turned to the machine and said, “I’LL BE BACK.” After his departure the machine miraculously began working. It spat out a sheet of paper with a series of EMOTICONS on it.

Once again the quality of the films was very high. In total 18 films were made. A fantastic achievement by all of the students. This year’s winners were:

  • Ava McDermott, Laura Cuthbert, Anh Nguyen, Dylan Lumsden (Gum Pirate) WINNERS OF THE JUNIOR  SECONDARY CATEGORY
  • Josh Brookes, Ryan Stewart, Kiran Pathy, AJ Papastamopoulos (How to Hide a Body) WINNERS OF THE MIDDLE SECONDARY CATEGORY

  • Maxwell Thompson and Samuel Hicks ENCOURAGEMENT AWARD JUNIOR SECONDARY
