TEACHING INITIATIVES

Kew High School Flight Club

A small team of staff and students has been meeting on a weekly basis to explore their passion for flight and all things sky-bound. The student led group’s vision is to increase awareness and understanding around aspects of flight through learning aerodynamics by identifying, sourcing, constructing and flying inexpensive, low-powered propeller planes. The club is able to bring together the synergies across different learning areas (science, art, maths, engineering, etc.) into a hands-on and exciting hobby that students enjoy while they engage in high level, complex thinking and problem solving. The club has plans to organise excursions to aviation museums and a guest speaker program.

Congratulations to Andrew Thickins and Tim Gason who successfully applied for, and received, a grant for materials and activities  for the Flight Club, from The Victorian Teachers Mutual Bank 2016 Teaching Initiatives Program.
