Cannonball moments

Thankyou to all involved in this week’s very successful Presentation Night. In a challenging world, we were privileged to bring so many members of our College community together to celebrate another successful year at the College.

My address focussed on ‘Cannonball moments’ as we celebrate the 500-year anniversary of the turning point in the life of St Ignatius of Loyola. The youngest of 13 children, he was a young man hungry for adventure and achievements. After being struck by a cannonball, he laid down his sword and took up the pilgrim’s staff! It was the beginning of the story of St Ignatius of Loyola and the founding of the Jesuits. In 2021, we have also celebrated 200 years of Catholic education in Australia and 50 years of Catholic Education Western Australia.

Our Building Program is a visible ‘cannonball moment’. Our main car park is due for completion this month and the hall and library will be ready early in the new school year. Our A Block renovation and new Staff and Administration Building will conclude over the course of 2022.

Another important consideration has been the significant feedback attained from our students, staff and parents over the course of 2021. This data and other conversations will help inform the College’s strategic directions for the next five years.

Some of the areas for focus in the new plan will include student and staff wellbeing, ensuring ‘student voice’ is better utilised and encouraging a wider base of student and staff involvement in decision making.

I look forward to elaborating more over the coming weeks and months.
