Year 3 Spotlight

Year 3 Spotlight

It’s been go, go, go in Year 3 and the students have all made a positive transition back to onsite learning. Their excitement when reuniting with each other has been infectious.

In our first week back, the students were feeling motivated and so they designed their own ‘motivational’ posters to be displayed around the room. That motivation will carry us throughout the remainder of the term.

Scroll through the posters – what motives you?

The best things about coming back to school:

  • Getting to see all my friends. ~ Saskia TH, 3C
  • Getting to socialise with other people. ~ Elly D, 3C
  • Just getting to read a book at school again. ~ Dylan D, 3C
  • Doing a fun maths mystery house challenge. ~ Huey C, 3C
  • Seeing all my friends and being able to do things with people in the class so I’m not just by myself in my room with a laptop. ~ Jemima W, 3B
  • Seeing all my friends. ~ Alex C, 3B
  • Seeing all my friends again because I hadn’t seen them in a while and being off a screen. ~ Rylee D, 3B
  • Seeing all my friends and not being on a screen. ~ Henry C, 3B

Literacy

During reading, students have been practising using codes to track their thinking, while reading fiction and non-fiction texts.

In writing, students have been planning and drafting sequels based on a book that was read to the class. Each student's sequel has been different and unique in its own way. We have loved seeing how the students have used the character differently in their stories.

Numeracy

In numeracy, students have been investigating fractions by folding different sizes and shapes of paper into equal parts. Students have compared the sizes of fractions using their own handmade rainbow fraction walls and have plotted fractions on a number line.

Inquiry

The Year 3 classrooms have transformed into magazine publishing houses. The students have been researching a wide variety of animals and their life cycles. Their research has been used to create informative pocket-sized animal magazines.

Animals have included:

Kangaroo

Chicken

Emu

Koala

Platypus

Echidna

Butterfly

Bee

Spider

Chameleon

Crocodile

Seahorse

Frog

Octopus

Turtle

  • I really liked doing the magazines. ~ Aurora M, 3C
  • I liked researching my animal for inquiry. ~ Zosia T, 3C
  • I liked researching the Tasmanian Devil and what the scientific name is. ~ Max N, 3C
  • I really enjoyed researching about the platypus. ~ Hugo S, 3C
  • I really loved creating the magazine, doing pictures and advertisements. ~ George B, 3C
