MUNA 2021

MUNA 2021

Recently four Year 11 students participated in MUNA (Model United Nations Assembly).

This is a youth project run by Rotary District 9820 to develop the skills and international understanding of youth in our Gippsland wide district that includes Melbourne's South East, the Mornington Peninsula and Gippsland regions.

Students were required to make a  five minute video submission based on their country of choice’s performance towards Climate Change and talk about the country’s stance on a proposed resolution.

The proposed resolution was titled “Sustainable Development: Protection of global climate for present and future generations of humankind”.

It was based on the United Nations Resolution 74/219 adopted by the General Assembly at its 52nd plenary meeting on 19 December 2019.  Essentially, the resolution proposed six clauses, which referred to topics like the Paris Agreement, Climate Finance and even the impacts of Gender inequality, and it was our task to make a video representing Sweden’s views towards the resolution.

Another major part of the event was interacting with other countries, or delegations, and partner with them towards possible solutions.  Throughout the course of the event, students had to work with other delegations and cooperate towards solutions and agreements.  They also had to debate with other delegations and try to gain support for our propositions too.

Congratulations to Orlando Randles, Nigel Mathew, Charli Evans and Ryan Zanders for their recent success at the District 9820 Model United Nations Assembly 2021.  Orlando and Nigel represented Sweden and won the 'People's Choice' Award and runner up for Best Video Production.  Charli and Ryan represented Japan & won the Best Country Dress Award.

Thank you to the Rotary Club of Frankston for sponsoring these students.

Many thanks to Mr David Cross and Mrs Sarah Bahramis for all their support during this opportunity.
