This year’s Science Talent Search was open to students in Grades 5 and 6 at Warrandyte Primary School.  The topic was Food by Design.   Warrandyte Primary School had 4 entries:

Sam Curnow- Upper Primary – Computer Programs Section- Cultured Beef Simulator

Asher Larratt and Joe Kneebone- Upper Primary- Video Productions- Topic Yeast

Charlie Clarke- Upper Primary- Scientific Model of a compost mixer that reduces the size of the particles for quicker breakdown of the food products.

As usual our students performed very well. Sam Curnow won a minor bursary of $40. Asher and Joe received a Distinction and Charlie received a participation award.

All students are to be congratulated on the quality of their projects and the amount of time and effort they put in at home, ably supported by their parents.

Some things that they learned while completing the projects of their choice.

Sam- By completing this task I learnt how to program using Scratch and I improved my researching skills.

Asher- If the temperature of the water is over 60 degrees Celsius it kills the yeast.

Joe- yeast really likes sugar.

Charlie- I am so proud of completing my project on time and that it worked.

Congratulations to Sam, Asher, Joe and Charlie on their creativity, endeavour and talent to complete these projects during such unsettled times.
