Dear Parents and Students,

The last few weeks has seen many activities involve students as part of their normal studies as well as sporting events. I joined the year 12 geographers as they investigated land use change at Wilson Botanic Park in Berwick, The Year 11With the end of term approaching it has been most impressive to see the level of engagement displayed by students as they experience their first assessments of the year. Feedback about these assessments will also be occurring on Canvas and it is important that all of our students’ act on any feedback they receive.

Cycle 1 Progress Reports.

Staff will be shortly completing the first set of progress reports for all students. These reports will be published in Canvas just prior to the first parent teacher student conference. These reports will provide feedback to parents and students about wha Environmental Science and Geography classes are about to leave on a 2 day trip investigating the Western District Volcanoes and our student leaders are shortly on camp at Toolangi for two days to coordinate their approaches and activities for the year. Already a number of students are in sporting teams that will progress to the next round as well as many swimmers.

Invariably participation in many of the events at JMSS will involve a degree of catch up and it is the responsibility of each individual student to do this. All subjects here have dedicated Google sites and detailed timelines that cover topics covered and assessment, so that the students can not only stay up to date but get ahead if they wish. Many teachers will also use Canvas as well to cover specifics of lessons.

Each teacher thinks about each student’s engagement in class and what they have accomplished of late.

Semester 1 Parent/ Teacher/ Student conferences

In 2021 the first opportunities to formally discuss your students’ progress are in week 9 of Term 1.  You are able to book an appointment with each of your child’s teachers.  Bookings for this conference will shortly be available in Compass.

When booking an appointment on Compass please do not book consecutive time slots for different teachers.

Viewing progress reports and booking interview times are dependent on accessing the Compass portal with a Compass password. Appointment times do book up quickly so do get in early.

It is highly recommended that parents book appointments with all their child’s teachers so as to get a comprehensive picture about how the year has started and what patterns related to your child’s learning to date can be identified.
