Wall Mural for R U Ok? 2020

This year, the Wellbeing Team took on a wall mural project to add some colour to the school. Every year, we promote the awareness of R U Ok? Day and celebrate the week with fun and educational activities for the students.

The Wellbeing Team decided that it would be great to have this as a constant reminder for students and staff members to ask their peers, co-workers, family and friends “R U Ok?” every day of the week. In collaboration with P&F (Parents and Friends group), we contacted a local designer, Tim Sta Ana, who was able to create a promotional design that we had envisioned which included the words R U Ok?, children playing and wellbeing related words.

With a touch of Tim’s personal design, we were able to make our vision come alive which added brightness to our school. We would like to extend our thanks to Tim Sta Ana and his assistant, the maintenance team and P&F for making this all happen. We hope to continue making a mark on promoting positive mental health and wellbeing awareness throughout our entire school community.

Raise Mentoring 2021

We are very fortunate at Brookside College to run Raise Foundation’s best practice mentoring program at no charge to the students. Selected secondary students are offered one-to-one mentoring with trusted adult volunteers from the community for an hour each week throughout terms 2, 3 and part of term 4.

In order for this program to run in our school, Raise is looking for volunteers from the local community – all you need is a desire to make a difference! Raise provides you with expert training and once matched with a student in your community, the program is structured, managed and supported by a qualified Raise counsellor.

Raise mentors get as much out of the program as the young people. They report beneficial outcomes including contributing to the community, improved listening skills and parenting skills and a connection to the younger generation.

Could you, or someone you know, volunteer time to mentor?

To ensure the best outcomes for our young people, Raise requires mentor to be:

  • 21+ years old
  • Available for 2 hours each week during school hours – day and time to be confirmed
  • Able to commit every week to a young person between April and October (excluding school holidays)
  • Able to complete 6 online training modules (approx. 3-4 hours) and attend two 2.5 hours virtual group training sessions
  • Provide a Working With Children Check and a Police Check

Head to raise.org.au/mentor to find out more and become a Raise mentor today.

Take care and stay safe!
