Reading

In reading we have continued focusing on analysing multimodal texts through the use of exploring different memoir texts and then comparing and contrasting them with an online clip and analysing which is more powerful and why.

Students also enjoyed reading the text Wilfred Gordon McDonald Partridge and learning about how important and precious memories are. They then carefully selected a precious artefact from their home (such as their first pets collar, their first toy or book from when they were born, shells from favourite holidays), in which they could associate some sort of memory with-positive or negative.

Students then shared these artefacts with the class and used the artefacts as a prompt to write a short piece on what feelings came to mind and why it was so special to them.

Writing

Students have been working exceptionally hard on drafting and publishing their own autobiographies on their life. They had an incredible time sharing their published work with each other and feeling proud of what they have worked so hard on creating throughout Term 4. Students wrote about their families, education, travel stories, family celebrations, naughty things they did as a baby, hobbies and predictions for what the future holds.

To celebrate their writing successes and share their life stories with each other, students came to school dressed as their ‘dream occupation’ and also had a laugh sharing photos of when they were babies and toddlers with each other.

Maths

In maths students have been focusing on Geometry and Shapes and then moving on to operations.  They loved measuring all sorts of different angles and getting confident in using a protractor correctly. Students have enjoyed working in their small group learning centres and exploring different strategies that can help them to solve different operation problems.

Year 5 Sport

Every Tuesday and Thursday, the year 5’s have had lot of fun playing ball games and participating in fitness bootcamps. Practising their skills that they learn in their PE lessons and ensuring they are using teamwork has been a great way for students to enjoy their Tuesday and Thursday afternoons! They are improving in their pushup and squat techniques and getting stronger and fitter each week, whilst having fun with their friends.
