Junior Sub School Hikes

At Melton Secondary College we are focused on building more resilient, confident, independent and strong students who show true grit. Therefore, we have introduced students to the outdoor education program early in Year 7 by providing them with a walking experience.

The walk takes us from Altona Station to Williamstown Station and allows students to experience a variety of different environments, discuss sustainability and minimal impact strategies and learn how to use the Public Transport System.

On this excursion the students were required to:

  • Bring a sense of enthusiasm and adventure
  • Try their very best and continue when the walk gets challenging. Use your grit
  • Work with your class members as teamwork is essential for us to finish the challenge
  • Be encouraging of others when they may be finding things difficult
  • Respect and appreciate the beautiful environment we visit (practice minimal impact strategies)

What students needed to bring:

  • Sturdy backpack
  • PE uniform
  • Waterproof Jacket if likely to rain
  • Supportive, worn in runners
  • At least 2 litres of water
  • Packed lunch
  • Energy foods - Lollies, M&Ms etc
  • Plastic bag - to carry all our rubbish out with us
