From the Principal's Desk

Welcome back!

It was so nice to welcome back our  Year 3-6 children yesterday after an extensive 'learning from home' period.

They settled back quickly into routine and by all accounts were happy to back with their friends and teachers.

We are certainly glad to have them back onsite and I know their teachers are excited to be reunited with their children on a 'face -to-face' basis and really get stuck into an intensive few weeks of teaching before  the term break.

Thank you to all families who are observing the necessary procedures in place for 'drop offs' and 'pick ups'  along with the appropriate social distancing measures. The glorious days we have been blessed with so far certainly helps and the calm and respectable nature means that we should be able to proceed without the need for staggering.

If and when the weather does turn sour please remember that we cannot have people gathering around classrooms and undercover areas so you will need to adjust accordingly.

Thank You

Over the past few weeks we have been overwhelmed by the number of messages of praise and gratitude that we have  received for the manner in which our Continuous Learning Program (Remote and Flexible Learning program) was envisaged and enacted and how we manged to keep our spirit and connectedness alive during the closure period. We were also gifted with a range of goodies baked fresh from your kitchens and some beautifully packed commercially baked treats for us all to enjoy as an expression of your thanks.

So, from the bottom of my heart, thank you! It's lovely to know that the work our staff do is so appreciated by you. Oh... and by the way, if you ever need some feedback on your baked delights, we would be happy to sample!

Feast of Corpus Christi Celebration

Next Sunday, 14th June is the Feast of Corpus Christi. To celebrate our school's feast day and welcome everyone back to Corpus Christi we are having a special celebration day on Monday, 15th June. The children will remain in their Learning Communities with their classmates and teachers and will participate in activities relating to the feast day. After lunch we will all enjoy a movie afternoon!

Lock-down Learnings

As we move back in to some normality, we need to take the time to reflect upon the learnings that arise from teaching remotely, and what may become the norm moving forward.

As a school we will take some time to seek feedback from students and parents and  staff will take time over the coming weeks to document our learning but just off the top of my head, here are a few to consider:

  • Partnership between parents and teachers is vital
  • Students whose parents are engaged in the learning program perform better
  • Outside the family, teachers still have the greatest impact on student learning
  • Face-to-face teaching is vital
  • Children can access their learning 24/7...  no more excuses for losing their homework sheet
  • We can conduct successful meetings with parents remotely
  • Children can find their way to their classroom by themselves. And, they can also unpack their bags!

Scholastic Book Club

Today, children received the next issue of Scholastic Book Club for 2020.  Orders need to be made through the Scholastic Book Club LOOP at www.scholastic.com.au/LOOP .

All orders will be sent directly to your home so it works out perfectly!

Please remember that the school no longer accepts cash or cheque payments.

For those new to Book Club, it’s a great way to get some extra books for your kids and help raise funds for the school too. 20% of the price of the books gets refunded back to the school to buy literacy products and supplies.

Of course there is no obligation to buy yet you may not have had the opportunity to get your hands on 'real' books lately so this may be a great opportunity.

Jump Rope for Heart

You may have noticed your child showing a huge interest in skipping at the moment! This is because we have been learning how to skip during our Physical Education lessons at school and at home. We are now excited to announce that Corpus Christi School will be participating in the Jump Rope for Heart program for 2020.

Jump Rope for Heart is a fantastic physical

activity and fundraising program that has been run by the Heart Foundation for over 36 years. It’s a great way for your child to keep fit and learn new skills, but it also helps raise funds for vital heart research and education programs.

Since Jump Rope for Heart started in 1983, schools like ours have raised more than $104 million for the Heart Foundation’s lifesaving work. It’s important you register your child online, so they can receive the full benefits of the program and participate in online fundraising, simply follow the link below to get started.

On the first Friday of Term 3, (July 17th) we will be participating in our 'Jump Off Day.' On this day, each community will have a special time where they will participate in some awesome skipping activities and showcase the skills they have learnt at school and when practising at home.

Thank you for supporting the Jump Rope for Heart program!
