A New Chapter begins...

I am very much looking forward to the end of term however, not for the usual reasons that you might expect. Something very special is happening on Friday, we are moving buildings!

That’s right, after many months of prayer, anticipation, setbacks, and hard work, Stage 1A is finally complete and we can move into our new building and prepare the classrooms to be ready for the beginning of term 3.

I still remember sitting in my office and looking out at empty dusty paddocks, longing to see the establishment of our first building. Now when I look outside, I see a large Prep modular, multiple playground, sandpits, footpaths, fencing and our first, big, beautiful, permanent building.

If the story of Wyndham Christian College was captured in a book, I would say the first four chapters would now be complete. Chapter 1 would have started with the Primrose family and the church congregation members who donated money to purchase the 30 acres of land in 1981. At that time their desire was to build a Church, a Christian campsite and a school. Although Robert and Nancy Primrose were not alive to see the opening of the College, it was a great honour to have their children attend our opening ceremony.

Chapter 2 would be dedicated to the visionaries of Christian Resource Ministries, Kingston City Church, Wyndham City Church and Heatherton Christian College who worked tirelessly behind the scenes negotiating with council, establishing business plans and working with architects and builders. Without these spirit-led leaders, the vision of Wyndham Christian College could not have come to fruition.

Chapter 3 would be dedication to the dust, sweat and tears that went into setting up the school. Hundreds of enrolment interviews were conducted well into the late hours of the night. Our passionate staff picked up hammers, saws, spades, drills, and anything useful to help tear down old structures, build new furniture and transform classrooms for the start of school.

Chapter 4 would be all about the rapid expansion of the College. Our little school of 100 doubled in size, forcing rapid process changes and doubling our staffing requirements. Our two prep classes quickly boomed to four, establishing a solid student base for many years to come. All the while, the building project was happening in the background. Each day we watched the site change as builders poured the foundations, put up frames and joists, added walls, floors, ceilings, lights, carpet, and cladding. Chapter 4 would also be about the modular building; this was a welcome relief when faced with unavoidable delays with our building project. Our preps and teachers have enjoyed the spacious, light-filled learning environments and we are looking forward to further establishing this space by shifting the library and an art room into this building.

Next week, Chapter 5 of our incredible story begins. It is the fulfilment of so many prayers, hopes and dreams. Our new building says a lot about the level of professionalism in which we wish to operate and our commitment to families to build a College that we can all be proud of. Countless hours have been invested into thinking through how we provide the best environment in which your children can thrive physically, emotionally, socially and spiritually.

I would like to personally invite all of our parents, to play a foundational role at the beginning of Chapter 5. It’s a big building and we need many people to help us shift classrooms and establish a new classroom space. Many hands make light work, so your contribution would be greatly appreciated.

To offer your assistance, please register your interest using the link emailed to you. The Working Bee will take place on Saturday the 27th June from 9 am until 3 pm. Hours contributed will be deducted from you Parent Volunteer hours, please be sure to collect and have your form signed off accordingly.

The Wyndham Christian College leadership team is thrilled to remember and celebrate Chapter 1-4 with you, and very excited to start Chapter 5 together as a strong community.

May the Lord bless you and keep you, The Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you, The Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace (Numbers 6:24-26).

Warm Regards,
