WELCOME BACK

.

Hello Parents and Carers of our wonderful Year 4 students!

Over the past twelve weeks we have certainly experienced many new things including upskilling ourselves in using new tech applications, spending time with family (a lot more than usual), and managing unfamiliar and challenging situations.

We have observed our students navigate the remote learning platform using Google Classroom.  Through regular meets, small group sessions and whole class discussions, the students have been given the opportunity to connect with each other and discuss and share their learning.

As part of their Project Based Learning Task, the studentstook action to connect with their community and make a positive contribution during this unprecedented time. This task links to one of the Big Idea driving questions:

“How can I contribute positively to my community?”

The project gave students the opportunity to compose and answer questions, explore what is achievable, investigate resources and undertake research in order to implement and see a plan come to fruition.

Some of the students’ actions include:

  • Writing a letter to each member of staff expressing that they were donating their pocket money to go towards the works for the playground
  • Creating a community cookbook inspired by recipes from their classmates
  • Kicking goals to raise money for their footy club
  • Letterbox drop to neighbours offering to assist with tasks
  • Neighbourhood WhatsApp group for elderly members of the community to use when they are in need of help (supermarket shopping, chores, etc)
  • Creating a poster to advertise donations for bike helmets to support families in need

We are proud of the efforts the students have made in making a difference to their community.

Sharing our Learning:

As part of this task, the students will be involved in class discussions whereby, they will have the opportunity to share and evaluate their action.

We encourage your child to send in hard copies of their Action Plans and any other evidence, e.g. photos, that they can use as part of the discussion. We request that this is done by Wednesday the 17th of June.

We extend a huge THANK YOU to you all for supporting your child with remote learning. We appreciate your feedback and encouragement and, are very grateful for all that you have done and for the different roles that you undertook during this time.

Expectations:

Now that we have returned to the school setting, the students are learning to manage their time more effectively and participate in all learning experiences to their fullest potential.

Students are asked to arrive at school on time (the time that has been allocated to accommodate siblings), and through their correct gate. Your child will need to sign in at the office if they are late to school - after 9:30am.

We are continuing to encourage the students to maintain hygiene and cleanliness. Every student needs to bring their own water bottle (clearly named) to school each day.

Home Learning:

From Monday, we will post Home Learning tasks on Google Classroom.

Your child will be expected to upload their completed tasks just as they did during remote learning, by the end of the week. Further details will be communicated about the task.

NOTE:

If your child does not have access to a device, we will provide a printed copy.

Some tasks may require you to print resources. If you do not have or have access to a printer, your child can copy the information onto a piece of paper or in a book.

At this stage, the students cannot take books from the classroom home to read. Therefore, your child will need to log on to myON to access texts that we have set for them. These texts will be under the tab, ‘Projects’.

Students cannot borrow books from the school Library, but can read books from home or from their local Library. They can also access books on myOn, Epic! and Storybox Library.  If you require the passwords or classroom codes, please contact your classroom teacher.

Stay safe!
