Spotlight On . . .

We all know Joe as our Crossing Supervisor, but how much do you actually know about him?
Joe was born in Calabria, in the South of Italy and is the second eldest of seven children in his family. When he was 20 years old, he came to Australia to live. He soon found a job at an elastic webbing company in Fitzroy, where he worked as a machinist for 17 years. He then worked at a fabric company for 30 years as a machinist and a supervisor, where he retired in 1999.
Joe's wife immigrated to Australia 2 years after him, they later married, and have been married for 64 years, Joe has 3 children and 6 grandchildren. Joe loves football - he initially followed Essendon because he lived in the suburb of Essendon when he first arrived in Melbourne, but then changed to Carlton to follow Ron Barassi.
Joe has been our crossing supervisor for the past 16 years. He is one of the most dedicated and committed people you will find. Joe had never missed a day supervising the school crossing until earlier this year, when he was forced to take some leave due to a visit to the hospital. He was worried about the students and a little disappointed that his perfect attendance record was going to be broken.
He sets a wonderful example for all our students and community members and watches out for all the children and families in and around the school. Joe loves seeing all the students as they come in the morning and leave at the end of their day.
As well as the marvellous job that Joe performs keeping our students safe each morning and afternoon, he also has a wealth of knowledge in gardening which he is always happy to share with anyone who has a question.
Sincere thanks Joe, you are a valued member of our school community.
