Change Yourself Change the World

Projects in Development

As a community we can be enormously proud of how our students/daughters have dealt with this massive change in their education over the past five weeks. They have shown resilience, independence and creativity in the ways they have responded to this challenge. This is especially apparent in VCE students as they have adapted, shown flexibility and provided honest feedback to their teachers that has contributed greatly to real learning partnerships.

For Years 7-10 students we are already awestruck by their desire to learn. This has been apparent nowhere more obviously than in the passionate approach many have taken to their personal projects.

The Project brief prompted our young women to change themselves and change their world. Here are some amazing ways they are doing this:

Design for a sensory blanket for children with autism

Exploring how difficult it is to build a miniature house

Creating a Scrapbook that visually chronicles the dark truth about the world of social media.

Producing a magazine that will educate both men and women on the injustices in gender equality to prevent the same problems recurring in the future.

Fighting Plastic Pollution by making an artwork using the polluting microplastics collected from waterways and beaches to raise awareness of the impacts plastic is making.

On being “a tradie”. One girl’s passion to work as a tradesperson.

Exploring Design Animation Apps to create a story about kindness

Making a website called “Helping Yellow” that raises awareness about hungry people experiencing homelessness in Melbourne - because “by putting ourselves in the shoes of homeless people only then can we understand what it must be like to have no food, no budget, no shelter”.

Creating symbols of hope using Origami

Redesigning Learning spaces for students using Interior Design Apps

We will be showcasing every students’ project in the last few weeks of this term. While we cannot have large gatherings, we cannot invite parents to attend. Instead, we will be asking our students to solve this dilemma.

If they are able to employ the same  inspiring, creative, innovative problem solving skills demonstrated by this small snapshot of developing project ideas listed above, then I am very confident there will be a way for you to see the results of their authentic, independent learning.
