An Overview of our Learning

Our school community has quickly adjusted to remote learning once again. Parents and students quickly set up spaces to work from home and teachers produced booklets to assist families with the work ahead. As a response to our parent survey we have made changes, our aim is to make remote learning as effortless as we can. Thank you to parents for all the positive feedback regarding these booklets. We have also begun releasing learning tasks for the week on a Sunday afternoon so that parents are able to read ahead if they would like to.

The workload is the same as the first remote learning however many students and parents have commented that it is a great improvement to release the work early and set it out in suggested days, this has made it easier for students and their families to manage the work load.

The Year Two students have been doing a wonderful job completing their learning tasks. Mrs Hall and Miss Bowles have heard a lot of positive comments from the Year Two students and their families about the way work that has been set and how it is just right, which is very good to hear. The Year Two students have continued along with their InitiaLit 2 program and have been doing an amazing job learning some new tricky concepts!

Students have been busy learning new Mathematics concepts as well as learning to write long and interesting sentences using adjectives, conjunctions and prepositions. We have also been taking a long trip around Australia as we read the book ‘Are We There Yet?’ for our Inquiry topic Maps and My Community. Mrs Hall and Miss Bowles are very proud of each and every one of the students!

Students have also been participating in small group WebEx sessions with other students from their class and their classroom teacher. These small group WebEx sessions have had a different focus each week including wellbeing, mathematics, reading and writing. Students have been active participants during these sessions and are engaged in the ‘live’ learning sessions. The students also take the time to catch up with their teacher and their classmates to share highlights from their week and have a chat with each other. It had been very rewarding seeing so many students in the WebEx meetings and to have the opportunity to see and speak with them. During our video calls we have continued the use of Talk Moves to ensure we are communicating respectfully with one another. Students have demonstrated responsibility for their own learning by coming prepared to those meetings with the necessary tools to complete the tasks.

This week students and families have been invited to post work or activities that they are proud of to share with others and celebrate. This space is an opportunity for students to appreciate the work of others and gain recognition for their many talents. This supports the well being of all students and the community.

Miss Bowles and Mrs Hall have been missing all our students and we look forward to when we can return to face to face learning. We have been lucky to get the chance to engage with our students during the video conference calls and it is such a bright part our day. Thank you to all of the parents for helping the students log on so they can participate in those meetings and for helping the grade two students with their learning during this time.
