An Overview of our Learning

Once again we find ourselves enduring the highs and lows of Remote Learning! However with the continued support of our incredibly resilient and caring families, when this does end, it truly will be a memory we will never forget.

In the Year One classes, Miss Tilley and Mrs McQueen have thoroughly enjoyed interacting with our students via our Live Learning WebEx’s. It has been marvellous to see so many of our students engage in the video conference calls with confidence and smiles.

Although the meetings are not compulsory, we would strongly recommend students to participate if they can. This way they have an opportunity to see their classmates and interact with us, like they would if they were at school.

During our video calls we have continued the use of Talk Moves to ensure we are communicating respectfully with one another. Students have demonstrated responsibility for their own learning by coming prepared to those meetings with the necessary tools to complete the tasks.

Miss Tilley has been running Maths Club on a Monday morning. The students, who have been participating in Maths Club have been extending their Number and Place Value knowledge. Students have been working with Miss Tilly on their addition and subtraction skills. Miss Tilley has been focusing on particular strategies, such as vertical addition and subtraction. The students have thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to be extended, interact with Miss Tilley and other Year 1 students via the highly engaging Maths Club.

Maths Clubs runs every Monday at 10am.

Mrs McQueen has been running a Book Club. The students involved in this weekly WebEx have had the opportunity to read aloud their favourite books and practice their Speaking and Listening skills. Students have been eager to share their favourite books and have loved reading out their favourite pages. Mrs McQueen has been encouraging students to give positive feedback to each other by using their Talk Moves. Recently the focus of Book Club has been further developing an understanding what punctuation is and how it’s important to pay attention to it when we read out loud. Students have been doing an amazing job of reading at a good pace, with accuracy and expression.

Book Club runs every Monday at 10:30am

Miss Tilley and Mrs McQueen have added an extra WebEx meeting time, on a Wednesday afternoon at 3:00pm. The purpose of this meeting is to allow all of our students the chance to say hi and socially interact with one another. Last week, students were encouraged to bring along their favourite toy to share. This week we are holding a crazy sock WebEx, where if you have some fun socks to wear and share, this will be an opportunity to do exactly that!

This term, we have also set up a Padlet, where all Year 1 students can have a go at completing an activity of their choice, related to the learning tasks set or otherwise. So far we have had students share their writing, tell jokes, share videos of them riding their bikes and have a go at flour painting!

Please check it out, as this is another way we can stay connected to one another during this time.

Miss Tilley and Mrs McQueen have truly missed all our students, when we get the chance to engage with our students during the video conference calls, it honestly brightens our day. Thank you to all of the parents for helping the students log on so they can participate in those meetings.
