Wellbeing

During 2020 there has been school wide wellbeing themes set for each term. For Term 3, our theme is Mental Health. This topic will remind students (and perhaps staff and parents) how interconnected the dimensions of health are and how caring for one’s Mental Health is as important as our Physical Health or any other kind of health. The Stage 4 & 5 Advisors on both campuses (Mr. Leach, Miss Lasker, Mr. Starr & Mrs. Murrie) have planned a series of LGS sessions to explore this topic throughout the term. This will be supported by some Community Mentor activities and through assemblies.

Students will be encouraged to identify and build their Support Network, improve their skills in Emotional Recognition and Regulation and will be challenged to explore the difference between Happiness and Contentment. Our School Psychologist Kat Carmody will  also be contributing to some question and answer forums, adding some excellent expertise.

In a year full of challenges and ongoing unpredictability, a positive look at Mental Health has never been more important. The resilience of our students, staff and families continues to be inspiring.

Year 11 Leadership

This term we have started the process for the election of 2021 Senior school leaders. This includes School Captain and Vice-Captain, House Captains, SRC Prefects and Boarding Prefects. Year 11 students have now nominated for the above positions. Last week the leadership course commenced with a series of sessions dealing with skills and common challenges that students will come across as leaders. These include:

  • Knowing strengths and weaknesses
  • Dealing with criticism
  • Initiative and
  • Positivity

This week students will record speeches and these will be shown during Community Time in week 4, after which the School community will vote. After votes are counted a shortlist of candidates will then be formed who will be interviewed. It is great to see a large number of Year 11 students interested and keen to be involved in leadership next year.
