Science

We have investigated and identified different forces and even went to 'Top Gun Training School' to learn about drag and its effect on flying objects. We are currently looking at energy and in particular electrical energy. Students are learning how to create a circuit that works and how circuits are used in children's toys.

A big thank you to all those families that have sent in old and broken toys that use batteries for us to take apart and dissect as part of this learning.

English

We have continued our focus on persuasive texts and written for varied audiences that have included the Bishop, Australians voting in the 1967 referendum and people moving to the New England. The students' ability to incorporate persuasive devices in their writing has steadily increased over the short time we have been back at school. Our reading rotations incorporate a session when Year 6 students read to Year 1 or 2 students and it has been great to see Year 6 students take on this opportunity to be role models.

Mathematics

In Maths, we have been focusing on prime, composite, square and triangular numbers. Students have been identifying patterns within these number groups and how they are defined. We even looked at the Fibonacci sequence and how it can be found in nature.

Holidays

Mrs Walters and I wish all our students and their families a great break and we are looking forward to a Term 3 that is a little more like normal.

Over the break please talk to your child about what stationery/materials they may be running low on and organise to top these up for Term 3.
