Classroom News - Year 2

Holidays

We are so thankful to the parents, carers and students of Year 2 for a wonderful term. Everyone showed how resilient they are and their ability to adapt to change. We are really proud of Year 2 for their hard work all term, and we know they can conquer any challenge that faces them.

We would like to remind families to stay safe these holidays. In order for us to continue teaching in the classrooms we need the whole school community to remain safe. We can do this by social distancing, washing our hands regularly and not travelling to areas with COVID 19 cases.

We look forward to seeing the children again for Term 3!

Seeds and Weeds

Year 2 have loved learning about different plants, how they grow and the impact of introduced plants on our environment. To wrap up our unit, Year 2 were lucky enough to investigate the shape, size, texture and smell of a variety of seeds, and even plant some of our own! Thank you Mrs Phelps for bringing in all the fascinating seeds from around your home.

Turtles

We never stop learning and caring in Year 2! Our Science unit about protecting turtles has sparked many of our class to think of ways to ensure they are doing all they can to look after the beautiful turtles. Eleanor created a petition for St Mary's students to sign asking them to commit to reducing pollution that is consequently impacting turtles lives and the lives of many other animals. Well done Eleanor, we hope everyone in Year 2 continues to use the 3Rs - reduce, reuse and recycle!

Feeding the family - History unit

Last week we started looking the similarities and differences between kitchens in the past and the present. Over the weekend many of our classmates interviewed their grandparents, parents, uncles, aunties and friends to find out what their kitchens were like in the past. Everyone enjoyed speaking to members of their families and communities and it was exciting to hear other peoples interview answers.
