Year 3/4 News

Ready, Set, And... We're off!
We must start by saying a huge congratulations and thank you to all of the families in 3/4. We have made a few adjustments to Online Learning this time around, and, we are very grateful for the students on being so resilient and adaptable to what we think are improvements from last time. Each morning, it is a pleasure to see huge smiles on the students faces and a sense of 'eagerness' to get the day started.
Learning Intentions
Timetable
Daily Timetables
Everyday, a daily timetable is posted on Google Classroom for that day. On the daily timetable, students will be able to find zoom links and PST activities they need to complete. Students are required to find their name on the daily timetable to check that they have a clinic or clinics and the times they need to attend.
We ask that parents help their child to navigate through the daily timetable and find when they are attending zoom clinics.
In the coming week, your child will be required to complete a personal daily/weekly timetable. On this timetable, students will record and highlight their zoom times, clinic sessions, and their focus child day. Once completed we encourage students to keep the timetable in a safe and visible place for all family members to see. We hope that this will help students keep track and be responsible for their daily routine while learning from home. This is a valuable skill for students to acquire.
Zoom Attendance
It is vital that ALL students attend their reading, maths and writing conference group zooms. All zoom links can be found on the daily timetable.
Daily Uploads
Students are asked to upload their reading and maths tasks every day. Students are also required to upload writing tasks the day before their focus day and weekly spelling and dictation is to be uploaded on Fridays.
Reading
During the first weeks of Term 3, the 3/4 students will be revisiting the reading skills of summarising and making connections. Students have been introduced to a new skill called inferring. Students learned that by using clues from the text and their own prior knowledge, they can infer what the author is saying in the text and what the character is thinking and feeling.
Below is chart that outlines how we inference.
Writing
This term we have introduced students to the Individual Writer's Routine. This routine begins with students collecting personal seeds of theirs to unpack and explore their thinking. From this seed, students will then record different text types that they can create using their seed idea. Students will produce a short piece of writing on a weekly basis.
Maths
Over the past two weeks, we have been learning about the 'full' extent of fractions! The 3/4's (no, not three quarters, haha!) have been looking at both 'proper' and 'improper' fractions, in order, on number lines, and in decimals! Yes, it has been extremely busy - however, the students have been completely engaged. As we move through the 'skills' of fractions, we are still encouraging all families to find and talk about all the fractions they can see, everyday. When we cook, when we build, when we read the time, there are fractions all around us. We wonder how many fractions you can see in your home today?

Cake In A Mug!
This week students combined their mathematical knowledge with their cooking skills. Maths in the real world!
Students were required to explore and record their favourite recipe. Students were required to include fractions, time, shape, and size- all mathematical concepts.
The master challenge was on. With so many entries we decided to collate a book for students to use.
Mrs Squarci could not go past Nevah's (3/4SR) recipe- How to make a mug cake.
Let me just tell you that the Squarci household couldn't get enough of it. I encourage our community to try it for your self.
Big thank you to all 3/4 students that completed the maths task. Bravi!
