Science News

Prior to remote learning this term, our Junior Science and VCE Chemistry students were conducting some interesting experiments. See below!

Year 7 Science

As part of our Earth Science subject students were looking at mining in Australia and its impact on the environment. Students undertook a chocolate chip mining practical. The aim of the practical was to make them aware of how carefully mining needs to be, otherwise, it impacts on the environment. You will see attached some photos from this activity.

Year 11 Chemistry

At the end of term 2 Year 11 Chemistry students were studying organic chemistry. One of the key topics in organic chemistry is esters.  Esters are used to make a variety of smells in foods and are created from alcohols and carboxylic acids. During the practical activity, students were able to create the following smells: apple, banana, pear and wintergreen.
