Healthy Hints and Tips from the Wellbeing Team
Diet:
It’s easy to forget to drink water during the winter months. We find ourselves wrapping in more layers and turning on heaters which can lead to winter dehydration.
To help you remember and encourage drinking water try these:
- Have a filled water bottle next you during online learning. Fill it up during your breaks
- Write a tally target of 2 Litres or 8 glasses of water a day in your journal or diary and tick it off as you go.
- Who doesn’t like a game? Compete with your family. Challenge your family to meet your daily water requirements.
Add a slice of lemon or orange to hot or cold water which makes it zesty and delicious.
Exercise:
Walk, jog, ride a bike, scooter, kick a ball at the oval, dance, backyard sports, garden, yoga, on-the-spot running, star jumps, push ups and virtual fitness classes are all great ways you can get moving and increase those endorphins (the feel good hormones) to circulate around body.
It can be hard to stay motivated. Things that might help keep on track include finding things you enjoy, varying your activities to keep them interesting, setting achievable goals, get support from family and friends.
Socialising:
Kindness is a super-power. Make sure you find the time to socialise with friends. Don’t forget to check in and stay connected. Inspiration for staying connected include schedule a virtual dinner, have a distance movie night, send them a letter in the mail, play some online games, set a regular time to talk, start a book club or fitness challenge each other. We all feel happier when we choose kindness!
