2020 College Captains

Years 11 & 12 Return to Remote Learning

The implementation of Stage 4 restrictions saw our Years 11 and 12 students join the rest of the Patterson River Secondary College student body in remote learning.

Demonstrating the truly mature nature of this cohort, we have witnessed their remarkable acceptance of a difficult situation compounded with a resolute commitment to their studies.

Students celebrated their last day on campus before stage 4 lock down, attired in sports wear and enjoyed some time together  in a student vs staff Tchoukball match.

National Youth Science Forum

Adah Hamilton from Year 11 has made it to the interview round for selection to attend this year's National Youth Science Forum. Students must be studying a range of science subjects at VCE level and only a comparatively small number of interviews are granted from the many applications submitted.  If successful, Adah will attend the forum in Canberra for 2 weeks in January next year. Our fingers are crossed for you Adah!

LABOUR MARKET UPDATE:

What are my chances of landing a job after Year 12?

Ever the optimist, you dust off Year 12 with the intention of finding a job…

Check out the chart below.

In 2016, you start looking for work. You have your VCE/VCAL under your belt and you enter the job market only to find that the unemployment rate for job seekers just like you is 7.7% (8 of the current PRSC Year 12s won’t be employed).

But looking to go on to further study after Year 12 improves your chances of finding work significantly. Getting an apprenticeship (a Certificate III), gets you employed almost as successfully as a Uni degree. The key thing is that you have completed further education beyond your VCE or VCAL…

Fast forward to 2020…

The impact of COVID-19 on the jobs market has been massive! In just three months, the number of young people who are now looking for work has risen dramatically!

And guess who you’ll be competing with to get a job when you finish school? People who have got their VCE/VCAL, but also have work experience, as they had managed to land a job before Corona hit. Think about it!

It may be worthwhile doing some extra study…
