A Review of Jurassic Park

By Felix Lichte

Adventure and Science Fiction - 1993

Jurassic Park is about a theme park set on an island near Costa Rica and the main attractions are dinosaurs. It is owned by John Hammond (Richard Attenborough), who was an entrepreneur founding the companies InGen and The Hammond Foundation.

Before the park was about to open, he had his grandchildren, Tim (Joseph Mazzello) and Lex Murphy (Ariana Richards) along with Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) a Chaos Theory Mathematician, Alan Grant (Sam Neill) a Paleontologist, Ellie Slater (Laura Dern) a Paleobotanist and a Lawyer to test out the park. During the test a massive storm encapsulates the island and while the laywer, grandchildren, paleontologist and mathematician were passing through the Tyrannosaurus Rex enclosure the storm causes the power to cut-out and the Rex breaks loose and kills the lawyer.

During the storm, all the dinosaurs break free and the majority of the island's population flee leaving only the mathematican, paleobotanist, paleontologist and grandchildren to try and escape. During their escape they are ambushed by a pack of Velociraptors, and eventually the Rex eats the raptors and saves the day.  The people escape and mostly everyone lives happily ever after.

The film is Steven Spielberg's adaptation of the 1990 Jurassic Park book written by Michael Crichton. The film is set on an island in Central America near Costa Rica and the island is called Isla Nublar and the film was set in 1993. However, the dinosaurs in the film are not an accurate representation of what dinosaurs would have actually looked like based on recent fossil discoveries.

My favourite character in this film was the park ranger who watched over the Velociraptors and was sadly eaten by them. I like this film because it included all aspects required to be entertaining - sometimes it was funny, it had jumpscares, it created enourmous suspense and it really got your blood rushing and kept your attention and the viewer on the edge of your seat.

I believe that most people would like this movie if they were interested in dinosaurs, enjoyed suspense and dark scenes, and didn't want too much comedy.

I would give this film a 4.7 out of 5 rating, and the only reason I didn't rate it a 5 out of 5 is because all the dinosaurs (excluding the Brachiosaurus, Gallimimus and Compsognathus) weren't very realistic. However, I  liked what they did with the Velociraptors (because otherwise people would have mistaken it for a Troodontidae Formosus) and similarly for the Tyrannosaurus Rex (it would have been mistaken for the Yutyrannus Huali).

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a book based on a young boy that is poor but ends up getting his dream come true. The genre for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is fantasy fiction because the movie was based on a fantasy novel written by Roald Dahl. The story was written by Roald Dahl. One day while Charlie was walking, he found some money under the snow, with that money he bought a Chocolate Wonka bar, in that Chocolate bar was a golden ticket to go to Willy Wonka's Chocolate factory. This movie is fantasy fiction, humour and fairy tale. There are 6 "main" actors named Johnny Depp, Freddie Highmore, Anna Sophia Robb, Julia Winter, David Kelly, Jordan Fry, Philip Wiegratz. But the main one is Freddie Highmore (Charlie bucket) and he is my favourite charter out of all of them because his nice and caring. The film was made in Germany in 1 September 2005 directed by Tim Burton. I think the message of the film is people who are good and honest will be rewarded.
