Principal Report

A message from the Principal

Ms Nerina Pretlove

We have ended Term 2 on a high note with both MADDFEST and Harmony Day bringing us together with music and dance.  Over the past few days the challenges that have been there from the Covid-19 pandemic and the unrest across the world have melted away and students and staff have celebrated those things that unite us and those that are our differences.

The extraordinary expertise of our CAPA Music Faculty and our artist-in-residence program with Solid Ground has been recognised by the Department of Education. The renditions of Crowded House’s Better be Home Soon and Dr G’s Bapa being used to showcase the talent and skills of students and teachers in the public education system. The video of Bapa will form part of the Department’s publicity for Education Week. This was all achieved whilst working remotely.

We welcomed Blacktown Member of Parliament, Stephen Bali, to our school as he presented us with a copy of his speech to the NSW Parliament about the dynamic and exciting performance program led by Head Teacher Dr Thomas Fienberg, teacher Luke Chapman and Voice Coach Hepi Liku.  Look for it on the wall of our foyer next time you are in the school.

Our school environment is going through a massive improvement program with classroom renewal, grounds regeneration and renovations to provide enhanced learning spaces. The Covid-19 pandemic has meant that the school has had to bring bottled water in as the bubblers were out of bounds and apart from the cost, this has had a huge impact upon the environment with many empty bottles. Starting next term, all students will be issued with an Evans drink bottle and we will have refill stations across the school for replenishing them. Thanks must go to our Business Manager Jackie Smith and to our super General Hands, Pete and Dave who have worked tirelessly to progress our school improvement throughout the term.

We are about to go into our new school improvement planning for 2021-2024 and will be conducting a situational analysis over the next term. This will form the underpinning of the planning process and the development of the new school plan. It would be an ideal time to revitalise our Parents and Community Group and have you involved in the future directions of our wonderful school. Early next term, we will send out invitations to you to join us in this process.

Next term, we are expecting to return to almost normal teaching and learning operations with the exception of large numbers of adults on the school grounds. This may change, as we see in Victoria at the moment, should Covid-19 take off again. Please access our social media pages for current information. Just a reminder that if your children are tested for a Covid-19 infection, they must stay home and can only return with a clearance which maybe a screen shot from an SMS.

We are looking forward to welcoming students back in Term 3 after the break. Be safe and keep warm.
