                                                   ............................................................

Welcome to the end of Week 6 of Term.

Important. Please note that we have a number of police vehicles cruising Springvale Road before and after school. They will be looking for those who are speeding in the 40km periods of time and for parents stopping to drop off children. It is important to remember that students must be dropped off at the Rosemary Ave entrance please, not at the front of the school.

The exam period for Years 10 and 11 is quickly approaching. Parents are reminded that Year 11s will have a study day on Tuesday June 7th, with exams commencing on Wednesday June 8th. Year 11 exams will be conducted at the Springvale Town Hall NOT at Killester.

The Year 10s will have a study day on Thursday June 9th and their exams will commence on Friday June 10th in the Year 10 area at Killester.

Students are not required to be at school except for their exams and are required to wear school uniform.

Evacuation Drill

We were very pleased to be able to complete an evacuation drill this week on Wednesday. Whilst it was brisk, it was a casual clothes day so the students were well rugged up in hoodies and jackets. All students and staff were accounted for in 12 minutes, which is quite amazing. It is important to undertake these drills regularly to ensure the safety of everyone.

Advanced notice for upcoming events for the home diary.

Thursday June 16 - Year 7 / 8 Band program concert at 5.00pm and 6.00pm in Tullow. With Music Soirees in Tullow June 21st and 22nd at 6.00pm.

June 17th is a student free day and a curriculum and assessment day for teachers.

Art and Technology Exhibition will be Friday evening, October 14th, in the College courtyard and Year 9 area.

Term 2 concludes at 3.05pm on Friday June 24th.

The Top End Tour departs Thursday June 30th.

Year 10 parents are reminded of the Senior Pathways Information Night onsite in Tullow on Thursday 14th July.

Best wishes, keep warm as winter sets in.

Learn To Speak English While You Make New Friends

Are you too shy to talk to people because you cannot speak English very well? Well you can improve your English because Killester College runs a ‘Conversational English Class for adults’ every Monday morning at 10:00am till 12:00pm during school term, for parents, family members and friends.  Classes are fun, where you are safe to try your new language skills in a friendly place. You will learn words that you may use everyday while at the same time make new friends who will encourage you to talk in English.  We also talk about things that are happening in our community.

We would love you to join us to help improve your English and at the same time have lots of fun.  Mondays 10.00am till 12.00pm in the Family Learning Centre at Killester College. Please contact Loreto Cannon at the College or via email at lcannon@killester.vic.edu.au to book.  We hope to see you there.

COVID and Rapid Antigen Testing Update

I am writing to let you know about changes to the provision of rapid antigen tests (RATs) in our school for the remainder of Term 2.

RATs will continue to be distributed to you as they have been throughout this school year for the remainder of this term.

However, from Monday 23 May 2022, we do not recommend that your child complete a RAT twice a week as previously advised.

RATs will continue to be required by students who are household contacts to attend school (five negative tests over a seven-day period) or who have symptoms.

The ongoing supply of RATs to families in our school will ensure that parents and carers have tests should they need them if their child is a household contact or has symptoms.

Families must continue to notify the Department of Health and  health@killester.vic.edu.au if their child returns a positive RAT result. Additionally, you should inform us if any of your children are household contacts.

Thank you to all families who have had their child vaccinated. Vaccination continues to remain the best way to protect students and staff in our school.

Getting vaccinated is easy and bookings can be done via the Department of Health’s website https://portal.cvms.vic.gov.au. If you have any questions about the vaccines, we encourage you to speak to your GP or a health practitioner.

Thank you again for your ongoing cooperation and support during this time.

Front Office Reminders

LEAVING EARLY – If your daughter is leaving school early for any reason, please make sure she has a signed note from Parent/Guardian to give to her Homeroom Teacher in the morning. Your daughter needs to then bring that signed note with her to the Front Office at the time of her departure. It is your daughter’s responsibility to come to the office at the time arranged for pick up. Students are NOT PERMITTED to make their own way home or to an appointment. A Parent or Guardian MUST come into the front office to pick up the student. Students are asked NOT to make contact with Parents/Guardians directly via their mobile phone, to arrange to go home while at school as use of their mobile phone is not permitted. This contact will be made by Front Office or teaching staff.

LATE TO SCHOOL – Please make sure your daughter signs in at the Front Office if she is late to school. If she does not sign in at the Front Office you will receive an SMS asking to explain her absence.

ABSENCES – If your daughter is going to be absent from school for any reason please make sure you ring the Front Office to inform them, preferably before 9.00 am. The Front Office staff will then mark your daughter’s roll accordingly so you do not receive an SMS.
