Year Advisers Reports

     Years 8, 10 & 12

It has been a jam-packed term already. Year 8 students had the rare opportunity to compete in both their Swimming Carnival and Athletics Carnival all in one term! Despite the cooler weather Year 8 made an excellent showing and their team spirit is heartening.

Year 8 engaged in the Safe On Social program which was focused on cyber safety and appropriate use of social media, something which is unfortunately now an intergrate part of our world and society.

We also had Year 8 students Elise Bell, Jhalaena Butao, Jasmine Harris, Dashiell Hartley and Evgenii Mikhalchenko who all participated in theOnTrackperformance night, and might I say, gave an outstanding performance.

All this and we are only just coming into week 7. I cannot wait for more!

Year 10 have certainly settled into Term 2. It has been great to see all of them knuckled down in their schoolwork. This term so far has been very busy with lots of events.

On Wednesday 8 June, I had the great pleasure of taking approximately 90 students to Stand Tall in Sydney. Stand Tall is a not-for-profit organisation that annually facilitates Australia's largest youth event, at the ICC Sydney's Aware Super Theatre for high school students, with the support of the Federal Government. The event features outstanding individuals, inspirational speakers and elite athletes who share their stories of overcoming adversity, finding self-belief, and chasing their dreams.

The day equips and empowers young people with tools and resources to manage social media, bullying, the pressures placed on their generation and mental health. I am extremely proud of how the students behaved and they need to be commended for this.

Year 10 have also had their first Information Night for Stage 6. This can be a scary time thinking about what subjects to pick for the next 2 years, and in fact the last 2 years of their secondary schooling. All students should have received an information booklet outlining the subjects available and what pattern of study to choose from.

There is another Information Night coming up on the Thursday 16 June, where all senior teachers will be in the hall with booths to answer any questions about their subjects. My best recommendation is to pick the subjects you enjoy because you will be doing them for the next 2 years.

Year 10 also attended their Geography Fieldwork excursion to Terrigal/Wamberal Beach on Friday 3 June. The students look like they had a great time and learnt a lot about the biophysical and human interaction of the coastline.

As we continue through this year, I encourage all of Year 10 to keep up the good work and keep persevering. Be kind to yourself and others, stay safe and remember

“self-belief is the secret to success”.

Year 12 have had an extremely busy second last term of their school journey so far.

The term started off with students finally being able to have their Swimming Carnival. They thoroughly enjoyed getting dressed up and had their own all-in races at the end of each bracket of events. We had the annual staff verse teacher relay and despite Year 12 students best efforts, including using flippers, the teachers remained victorious for another year.

A few weeks later we then had the Sport's Carnival. Again, the students put their creative hats on and out did themselves in their dress up. Not only did they bring a lot of positive vibes but they helped cook a successful BBQ, offering bacon and egg muffins and sausage sandwiches.

Recently 25 Year 12 students helped run a weekend Bunnings BBQ. They were complemented many times on how well mannered they were and how well they worked together as a team. We sold out on the day and had to go and get more stock. The students were very grateful to all the members of the Henry Kendall High School community for coming and supporting them on the day.

Finally, a special mention to all of the Year 12 students who had their final 'OnTrack' event. It was great to see the passion these students have for their art. It was especially amazing to see how much these students have grown since their first OnTrack performance in 2017
