Deputy Principal's Report

Years 8, 10 & 12

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is an annual assessment for students in 7 & 9.

This year was our first year completing our NAPLAN tests online and all our students did a fabulous job. The format and skills were very different to the paper exams however, all students were well prepared and completed the tests to the best of their abilities. We all look forward to receiving the results.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff who worked for over a week to ensure the exams were organised and all students received the support they needed.

Mr Wawrzyk, Ms Wilkinson, Mrs Blue,

Ms Reynen, Ms Sanki, Mrs Hogan and

Mrs Coote.

Year 10 are also busy with lots of presentations to support their transition into Stage 6 in 2023.

On Thursday 2 June 2022 there was a Community Information Evening held from 7.00pm in the school hall, individual student pathway options for our Senior School in 2023/2024 were discussed. NESA information was outlined and Course Information Booklets were distributed.

On Thursday 16 June 2022:

Commencing at 7.00pm there will be a Course Information Evening where you and your child can obtain additional course information from faculty representatives. Staff will be available to explain course information and to answer any questions.

On Tuesday 19 July:

Individual Student Interviews - there will not be any timetabled lessons for Year 10 students.

Each Year 10 student will be required to attend a formal interview regarding their proposed pathway plan for 2023. Students will attend school only for the duration of their interview. The remaining time should be used to complete

course selection and career path research before course selection is lodged via EDVAL. Students will receive a link to EDVAL via their DoE email addresses. Hard copies are to be submitted into the Front Office and date stamped by Friday 22 July 2022.

I strongly advised to lodge a course selection sheet even if they are considering moving to another training provider or a job next year as circumstances often change. Course selections will be available on Friday 17 June 2022.

Stage 5 – Subject Selection Evening will take place on the 22 June at 7.00pm in the school library.

A booklet outlining the curriculum structure and proposes elective courses for Year 8 students entering Year 9 in 2023 and Year 9 students entering into Year 10 in 2023, will be issued to students on 16 June 2022. It also includes brief notes about aims and content of elective courses.

An Information Night will be held on Wednesday 22 June 2022 from 7.00pm in the school library.

All students will be asked to nominate their choice by Thursday 23 June 2022. To access the online system students will need to obtain passwords from their DEC Student Portal. Students will receive an email on the morning of the 23 June, and they will be able to place their choices in the system at that point of time.

Students will study two electives over Year 9 and 10. Year 10 will continue with their 200 hour elective but will select another 100 hour course. Students need to nominate two selections plus three reserve choices. The system for subject selection will close on Friday 1 July 2022.

To assist in sound selection may I ask you to consider the following:

• Some courses are related directly to future occupation/career opportunities.

• Students should select courses which offer the potential for enjoyment and success.

• Some elective courses have fees which must be paid in addition to the general school contribution.
