Deputy Principal Teaching and Learning Report

Year 9 – 11 Examinations

As noted in the College calendar, the dates for these examinations are as follows:

  •        Year 10 & 11 examinations: Thursday 9 June – Thursday 16 June
  •         Year 9 Examinations: Tuesday 14 June – Thursday 16 June

Preparations for examinations should already be a regular part of each student’s routine, putting into practise advice provided by Nazareth staff and guests speakers throughout the year.  While teachers set structured homework tasks for ongoing learning, it is important for students to also be continually revising material and skills from earlier in the semester in preparation for the examinations. Students are advised to have a set timetable of study so that each day, independent study of material from previous topics is actively revised (and remember: reading is the least effective form of study!).

Changes to the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning

Victoria is moving to a new integrated senior secondary certificate in 2023, which will be fully integrated by 2025. This will bring together the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) and Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) certificates. These reforms will ensure every student has the skills they need to find rewarding careers and reach their full potential.

The first stage is the introduction of a new VCE Vocational Major commencing in 2023. This is a two-year vocational and applied learning program that will replace Senior and Intermediate VCAL and offer a program that enables successful transitions into apprenticeships, traineeships, further education and training, or directly into employment.

From 2025, a fully integrated senior secondary certificate will be introduced across all Victorian schools and senior secondary providers, offering students genuine and identifiable vocational pathways. Under an integrated single certificate, all students will be able to build a program relevant to their specific strengths, interests and future aspirations.

We will be holding information events for parents as soon as we have full details of the new program.
