Walton House Update

Hello Walton!

Welcome to Term 3! We hope you had a restful break 😊

Term 2 Reflection

Term 2 ended with a bang!!Year 8 Camp: In week 8 we had the year 8 camp run which was a huge success. Students had a fantastic time doing activities such as horse riding, mountain biking, canoeing and a disco!

City Experience: In week 9 the year 9s participated in a City Learning week, where they went into the city via public transport each day for three days. They were involved in activities including The Big Issue, The Old Melbourne Gaol tour, Melbourne Street Art tour and the NGV!

Work Experience: The year 10 students went off on their work experience in week 9, and feedback from the workplaces has been fantastic! This was very valuable for students who gained skills and life experience.

Term 3

So far, Term 3 has started strong, with students engaging well with their semester 2 subjects, wearing uniform with pride and following the school values.

Term 3 has kicked off with course counselling to make sure that all students are doing subjects they love next year.

We have some exciting things coming up including Book Week, Staff v Student competitions and RUOK day.

Values Nominations and House Points

Term 2 has already shown a huge amount of values nominations come through to celebrate the incredible work that students are doing in their classes, and to show the dedication to adhering to the school values.  We had a House Assembly last week which celebrated these achievements.

A huge congratulations to all our Walton students for their efforts on earning nominations for living our HPSC values. Currently our nominations stats are:

Respect: 107 student nominations

Learning: 1401 student nominations

Working Together: 679 nominations

Leadership: 100 nominations

Community: 62 nominations

That is a total of 2,352 nominations since the beginning of the year!

Reading House Points

If sport isn’t your thing, remember that across the houses we have a reading program. This reading program is to encourage students to read books, fill out a mini review and receive 5 house points!

If a student writes a long review, Mr Shinkfield will post it on compass, and that student will be awarded 50 house points (that’s right, 50!).

If you’re interested in this, please go to the library near the returns, and you’ll find some coloured slips. They are in house colours, so grab a yellow one and start reading! Each month we will have staff and student recommendations in the Newshamper.

Student Book Recommendation:This month’s student book club recommendation comes from the wonderful Year 8 student:Nayab Nawrozi, recommending the book ‘A Muslim Woman’s Diary’

In each Newshamper we celebrate the achievements of one student. This month, our student of the month is…Laliya Kute – Year 10

Ready to Learn Reminders Please remember to wear your uniforms with pride. Uniform is an important way to demonstrate our togetherness as a community, and a way to represent our school community. It’s a responsibility of students at HPSC to uphold this standard, and overall, we are really impressed with the presentation of uniform so far.

As we are into winter, if a student has an out of uniform jumper, they may loan a school jacket for the day. They will also receive a detention, unless there is a valid reason for being out of uniform and note from home. Wearing the uniform correctly is a great way for us all to show school pride! 😊

Remember to attend classes on time, so that students have the best chance at accessing information and content. Being 10 minutes late 5 times a week means students can be missing an hour of class time over the week. A reminder to students to ensure bags aren’t coming to classes, and that lockers are being used appropriately. Enjoy the last few weeks of term, and have a restful, safe and happy break!

Thank you- The Walton Team
