Hampton Park Secondary College CAREERS EXPO!

After 2 years, HPSC was able to finally host a CAREERS EXPO onsite!  The event was well attended by over 30 exhibitors including Brik and Block Careers, MEGT Apprenticeships, RMIT, Monash University, Skillinvest Vitoria Police and many more!

Each year level had the opportunity to attend the event and ask the exhibitors questions and gather reading material on the courses on offer.

Senior school staff also ran information sessions for parents and students regarding the new Senior School Certificate for 2023. See the diagram below regarding the new certificates.

For more information regarding the new certificates click on Senior secondary schooling pathway reforms | Victorian Government (www.vic.gov.au)

The careers team is looking forward to busy term – our Year 12’s are busy preparing for their final year of secondary schooling and looking forward to planning for

university and TAFE, employment options, GAP years, apprenticeships and more!

During Term 3, every Year 12 student will have a 1:1 meeting with a careers and wellbeing staff member to assist with their VTAC, SEAS and Scholarships application.

OPEN DAYS are coming up! We encourage all Year 12’s to think about visiting TAFE’s and Universities on Open Days.  Each student was recently sent a list with Open Days taking place during August.

Year 10 Work Experience and Course Counselling!

This year we had over 100 students attend work experience!  Our students attended placements at Coral Park Primary School, Emerald Dental Care, Ultra Tune Hampton Park, Woolworths and Coles Supermarkets and Porsche!

The college received some great feedback about our students! Some of the comments we received were:

“The students worked really well in the office in a team with another work experience student from another school”

“ They took direction really well and saw growth in their confidence over the week, particularly in completing tasks independently, and in communicating with staff”

“They helped organise the office stationery and categorised inventory really efficiently”

“They were very lovely and helpful to have around”

Last term our Year 10’s were busy learning about their interests and strengths last term in preparation for course counselling.  We’ve had lots of students asking questions about subject selections, VET Courses and pathways for 2023!  All students are encouraged to research subjects and VET courses in the 2023 Subject Selection Handbook, for more information!

Remember the Careers Staff are always around to help with careers information, job spotlights and how to achieve your dream career!

Here are some great sites to research jobs and careers!

  • www.VTAC.edu.au  – go to course search and type in a career such as nursing or engineering etc.
  • Joboutlook.gov.au https://joboutlook.gov.au/  – this site shows industries and jobs that are expected to grow, average pay rates, jobs that are in demand and includes a quiz for you to do that matches your skills to jobs.
  • Another great website is  https://myfuture.edu.au   – you will need to register for this website, but it has lots of interesting areas on career info. You can click on the bullseye and see similar careers associated in health/biology/social science (e.g.) and many more.

Careers Expo

All the Domains joined the fun at Career Expo on Wednesday, the 13th of July by putting up displays and interacting with parents and students.

The teachers highlighted the subject choices on posters, brought along the texts being studied, and exhibited student exemplars.

It was a great opportunity for a wholesome experience as all the domains came together under one roof to interact and collaborate with the parents, guardians, and carers of our HPSC community.
