Interschool Sport
Last Friday our Blue teams and our Red teams started the first round of the Interschool Sports competition. The Blue Teams played against Kalinda and the Red Teams played against Yarra Valley Grammar. This round with YVG were practice matches and they will pay the round that counts with YGS in a few weeks’ time. Thank you once again to the wonderful parents who have volunteered to take on the teams so that they could play their games. This week there is no sport as the Year 6s are on camp.
District Cross Country Competition
Next Tuesday the students who came in the top 10 of their House Cross Country will be competing against 9 other schools in the area. The competition is being held at Quambee Reserve in North Ringwood. We have 3 staff attending on the bus but we do need to provide parents to assist around the course, the same as we did for our House Cross Country, however this is being spread out now amongst the schools. Thank you to the parents so far that have volunteered to assist on the morning of the competition. The event will be finished by around 12.00 – 12.15 pm. We need 2 more and we are set to go. If your child is competing and you can make it and are able to assist, please drop me an email : Noreen.McMenaman@education.vic.gov.au.
Thank you to Mrs Yorke who has been training the students during recess twice a week. Please make sure that consent is given to your child and paid for on Compass.
House Athletics Sports
It's all happening this term. That’s always the way with such a busy sports calendar. On Tuesday 31st May, all the Year 5/6 students will be having a fun race day at the Ringwood Athletics Track - Proclamation Park. There are buses booked to take all the students who will be racing in all the track events, being 100m, 200m, Hurdles, and 800m. The 1500m will be run back at school so that students don’t do too much on the day. There will also be long jump, triple jump, shot put and possible tunnel ball if there is time.
On Thursday of the same week 2nd June, the Year 3s and 4s will be participating in the same events at the Ringwood Athletics Track, also contributing to the House Athletics Sports. There will also be buses on the Thursday. We will need a few parents to assist on these days to help out with the running of the track events and assisting at the field events that are being held. If you are able to help out on your child’s day, please also let me know so that we can plan for the day.
We understand that the demands at the moment for sport are a lot, however we can’t do these sports for the students without the help of our wonderful community.

Over the past two weeks, Prep – 6 classes participated in an AFL football clinic run by Eastern Football Netball League (EFNL). Students enjoyed playing many different games with a skill focus on marking, handballing and performing a drop punt kick. Being able to outsource and provide students the opportunity to take part in organised clinics, allows them to experience and have a go at a ‘potential’ sport they may wish to play locally outside of school. If your child has shown an interest in football, you can access your local Junior Football or Auskick club through the AFL or EFNL website.

Book Fair Update
The Book Fair will run from Monday 23rd May to Friday 27th May. The Library is closed for classes and borrowing for this week. The books are on display and available for purchase (although copies of popular books do run out and these need to be prepaid and I have to order them).
Opening times for the Book Fair are:
Monday 23/05/22 8.30 - 9.30
Tuesday 24/05/22 8.30 - 9.30
2.40 - 4.00
Wednesday 25/05/22 8.30 - 9.00
3.00 - 4.00
Thursday 26/05/22 8.30 - 9.00
Friday 27/05/22 8.30 - 9.30
Masks are recommended.
Some of the times are designed so that you can come in without children if you want to purchase the books as gifts. Other times are designed so that your children can come in with you. Please do not take children out of class to come to the Book Fair with you.
All the classes will get a chance to come in and write out a wish list during the week of the Book Fair. Some classes may come in after you have purchased books at the Book Fair. If this happens with your child it is okay to remind them that they have already received books from the Book Fair and therefore the wish list they have filled in is not required. Some parents love the idea of a ‘Wish List’ others hate it! We do remind the children that it is a ‘Wish’ list and it doesn’t mean that they will necessarily get anything that they write down. They are also reminded that the Library purchases books from the Book Fair and they can always suggest a book for the Library to buy. On the back of the Wish List forms there are instructions on how you can pay online if you can’t get into the Book Fair. If you make a payment this way please make sure that your child has been into the Book Fair to redeem the receipt that you receive by email BEFORE the Book Fair closes on Friday morning.
Lamont is the company through which we are running our Book Fair this year. This is a fundraising opportunity for our school.
Payment can be made by cash, Visa or Mastercard or online as per instructions on the back of the Wish Lists. We should have two EFTPOS machines available. No AMEX is available.
Looking forward to seeing you there.
