Gratitude
On Monday it was ES (Education Support) Appreciation Day. Here are the places at CHPS that you will find ES staff: the Library, Learning Enhancement rooms, classrooms, the Canteen, Uniform Shop, First Aid, Out of School Hours Care, Student Wellbeing and the Admin office. The Social Committee organised a lovely afternoon tea and many students made beautiful appreciation cards.
On a another note, it is National Volunteer Week this week and the theme is ‘Better together.’ How great is it that we have all been able to reconnect in person and do things together. I would like to acknowledge our CHPS volunteers who make themselves available to serve our school community, whether it is being a part of School Council, CHAPS, or MOTHS, helping out at sporting events, attending excursions and camps, sorting out the lost property, volunteering to help in classrooms, helping in the garden (thanks Interchange team), organising fundraisers and stalls, turning sausages at Bunnings or election BBQs, or just generally being around to lend a hand, it is much appreciated. If you are interested in becoming involved at CHPS, please contact the office to discuss the opportunities that are available.
Absences
Shortly, I will be contacting caregivers of students who have had a significant number of absences this year. Just a reminder that ‘parent choice’ on Compass is not classed as an approved absence. If your child is unwell for more than a couple of days, please arrange a Telehealth or in person medical appointment and ask for a Dr’s certificate. If your child tests positive to COVID-19 you need to report the positive case through the Student COVID-19 Test Portal and you can notify the school in writing or by phone. You must also report your child’s positive test to the Department of Health via the COVID-19 Positive Rapid Antigen Test Self-Reporting Form or call centre on 1800 675 398.
If you are planning a family holiday or your child is well, but absent for some reason, please contact us and we will put together a Student Absence Learning Plan to ensure that your child is provided with tasks to keep them engaged in learning while they are away.
Did you know ….
May is Indigenous Sport Month. There was recently a great article in the newspaper outlining Ash Barty’s journey. She spoke a lot about Indigenous role models including Sam Kerr, Kyah Simon, Paddy Mills, Scott Boland, Cathy Freeman, Lance Franklin, and Evonne Goolagong Cawley. This month, I encourage you all to do some research to discover more Indigenous role models in our community. Also, don’t forget to check out the ‘Culture Connect’ page. There is some great student work featured and a very important poem to reflect upon.
Until next time,
