Masks are back on at Croydon Hills Primary School
As you may or may not be aware it is now ‘strongly recommended’ that community members wear facemasks when in densely populated indoor environments.
With the increase in COVID cases and other illnesses at our school, Croydon Hills Primary School will be adopting such a stance. At home, we encourage families to have discussions that support this notion and our school as we look to prevent further student and staff absences.
Senior School Outdoor Learning Area
The Senior School Learning Area has taken shape over the past fortnight. The two waterproof shade structures were funded in part by State Government COVID safety grants with the balance via School Council’s cash budget. The area will provide an all-weather area for students to learn for the years to come.
All the best Jess!
Today we are wishing Jessica Toomer-Smith well as she breaks for maternity leave prior to the impending birth of her first baby.
We wish Jess and husband Matt all the best!
Welcome Bec
Welcome to Rebecca Brown, who will take Jess’s role in Year Four Learning Enhancement. Bec comes to Croydon Hills having previously taught at Kingswood College in Box Hill.
Thank you Sonja
Today Sonja Terpstra MP for Eastern Metropolitan Region presented our school’s teacher leader of Reading, Bree Jennings, and Year 4 students Finn and Amelia with five picture storybooks for our school library. The texts chosen by our school align with the current unit of study our Year 4 students are engaging in, related to indigenous history and culture. The texts and others in our school Library will also be used in the coming weeks as our whole school has a targeted focus on enhancing our community’s understanding of reconciliation, indigenous history, and culture. It is our school’s belief that, with rich literature and a sustained focus, all Australians can enhance their understanding of our country’s shared history, cultures, and achievements.
School Uniform and Updated Uniform Policy
The school’s uniform is a symbol of school pride and, to the broader community, the first impression others have of our school.
Last night School Council updated our Uniform Policy to enhance clarity around students’ presentation of themselves as representatives of our great school. Our Uniform Policy is available on our website. Updates to the policy were as follows:
- Adding clarity to the wearing of white, black or navy socks that are plain or with school logo only.
- Adding clarity to the process of uniform returns to include ‘within 60 days’, ‘with tags attached’, and ‘unnamed’.
- Adding contemporary language to the process of informing families of students that are out of uniform with the substitution of the word ‘note’ to ‘Compass message’.
In other discussions at School Council, it was reported that there is a high level of satisfaction with the school’s polar fleece rain jacket which is available from the uniform shop for $48.
Repeat - Report Writing Day – Tuesday 14th June
Tuesday 14th June will be a Report Writing Day for teachers. Students will not be required at school with families asked to make alternative arrangements for the care and supervision of their children. Out of School Care will operate a full-day program for families that wish to enrol.
