Prayer
Pentecost Novena Prayer (Daily Prayer for the 9 days between the Ascension and Pentecost Sunday)
O Lord Jesus Christ who, before ascending into heaven, promised to send the Holy Spirit to finish your work in the souls of your apostles and disciples, be pleased to grant the same Holy Spirit to me that he may perfect in my soul the work of your grace and love.
Grant me the spirit of wisdom, that I may despise the perishable things of this world and aspire only after the things that are eternal;
the spirit of understanding to enlighten my mind with the light of your divine truth;
the spirit of counsel that I may ever choose the surest way of pleasing God and gaining heaven;
the spirit of fortitude that I may bear my cross with you and that I may overcome all obstacles that oppose my salvation;
the spirit of knowledge that I may know God and know myself in him;
the spirit of piety that I may find the service of God sweet and pleasurable;
the spirit of fear of the Lord that I may be filled with a loving reverence towards God and may dread in any way to offend him. Animate me in all things with your spirit.
Amen.
2022 Sacramental Dates:
Extraordinary Sacrament of Confirmation - 8:30am Sunday 5th June, 2022 (Pentecost Sunday)
First Reconciliation - 6:00pm, Tuesday 20th September, 2022 (Catholic students in Year 2)
Sacrament of First Eucharist
Last Sunday, candidates in the First Eucharist program celebrated this very holy Sacrament at St Joseph’s Church, Gunnedah. Fr Abmar celebrated this Mass, which just happened to coincide with the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord.
The candidates shared in a reflective Retreat Day which had been beautifully prepared by the Year 3 teachers, Brittany Reynolds and Sarah Hamparsum. The candidates attended Reconciliation in the Our Lady of Perpetual Succour Chapel with Fr Abmar and Fr Samson before returning to school to complete artwork to adorn the church walls for Sunday’s Mass. The Retreat Day concluded with a BBQ lunch kindly cooked by Aaron Goddard and Casey Frend.
2022 Extraordinary Sacrament of Confirmation + Morning Tea
This Sunday, 5th June (Pentecost Sunday), our Parish will be celebrating an extraordinary Mass for four candidates - Baxter Knapman, Cooper Whitton, Cohen Walton and Henry Maslen - who were unable to attend their Sacrament of Confirmation last term. Mass will be celebrated at the normal time of 8:30am and will be followed by a morning tea in the Church Hall, which will be hosted by St Xavier’s. Please keep these candidates in your prayers as they prepare to celebrate their Sacrament of Confirmation this weekend.
2022 Catholic Schools Week
Last Tuesday, our school captains and prefects, along with Jen Honner and Mal Frend, travelled to St Philomena’s Moree to attend the Western Deanery Catholic Schools Week Mass. Unfortunately Bishop Michael Kennedy fell ill and was not able to preside over this Mass as was originally planned. The student leaders were wonderful representatives of our school.
