Term 2, 2022

Year 4 Term 2, 2022

Welcome to Term 2.  We hope you all had a lovely break.

Our excursion to the Immigration Museum and Cook’s Cottage will be on Wednesday 1June. This will help to support the students learning in our Unit of Inquiry. They will be well-equipped entering this experience with all the knowledge that they are currently gathering from the classroom to relate to the physical environment.

Literacy

Grammar

We will be focusing on nouns and verb groups and adjectives, while also looking at homophones such as there their and they’re.

Directed Writing

Students will explore a variety of writing traits as they investigate Australian history. Students will also focus on informative writing.

Spelling

Students will continue to focus on individual spelling words each week as within the SMART spelling approach.

Reading

Shared and individual reading will continue in our class time this term, with a particular focus on reading stamina as part of the Daily 5 & CAFÉ Frameworks.

There is a continued expectation that the students read regularly at home, a minimum of three nights. This needs to be recorded in student diaries and signed by parents.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

Number and Algebra

  • Automatic response of numbers up to 30 using all four operations.

Measurement and Geometry

Students will focus on timelines through their Unit of Inquiry on Australia: ‘Where We Are in Place and Time.’

Statistics and Probability

Students will be able to explore and choose appropriate graphical displays to represent data found through a wellbeing activity, reflecting on findings and ways to effectively share information.

Early Morning Maths

Early Morning Maths will continue to be held every Wednesday morning at 8.30am in the Year 4 classrooms. This is an enjoyable and valuable experience for all.
