YEAR 10 EAL CREATIVE WRITING

Over the last few months, as students of 10EAL, we studied multiple dystopian texts. Through watching The Truman Show and Steve Cutt's animations, and reading Brave New World, we gained a clear perception of what a dystopian reality is, and its key characteristics.

As a final test of our skills, as well as of our understanding we were asked to produce a piece of dystopian creative writing. So, each student did a plan for their creative writing and got to work. The experience was very enjoyable.

We brainstormed and discussed different ideas with each other, provided important constructive feedback to each other, and refined each other’s writing. We also explored different forms of writing; therefore, some students chose to write a dystopian podcast script, and others wrote a dystopian short story.

At first, everyone’s writing was quite basic, but throughout the task, people extensively improved their stories and script. More imagination was implemented, better vocabulary was utilized, and finally a deep representation of ‘dystopia’ was apparent in everyone’s writing.

Following this, our writing was collected, checked over and then printed. We were stunned by the final result - an actual book (or magazine to be more precise) with everyone’s writing in it.

It had a beautiful cover and back with images used throughout to help convey meaning.

Overall, it was a very enjoyable task, and I think we all learned a lot from it.
