AUSTRALIAN MATH COMPETITIONS

Following long periods of working from home over the past two years and missing the competitions, students have returned to participate in the AMT events with great fervor! It is beautiful to see students recognise the importance of challenging themselves in order to develop their decision making, problem solving and critical thinking skills.

A large part of success is to recognise and enjoy the process of working hard to solve a problem, irrespective of the outcome. Furthermore, we have three students who will participate in the upcoming Australian Intermediate Maths Olympiad, a 4-hour problem solving contest which will push their knowledge and application of their math skills!

We endeavour to have as many students participate in these events in future. We hope students recognise that the experience from participating leads them to explore and learn new skills. So, let's continue to challenge ourselves.

STUDENT FEEDBACK

Participating in the CAT competition was fun because the problems could be solved with mostly application of logic. Through AMC I learned new strategies and approaches to solving difficult problems, and I look forward to more maths competitions.

Recently I participated in two mathematical competitions: AMC & CAT. I think this is a great chance to challenge ourselves and test our knowledge, I really enjoyed these two competitions even though some questions were pretty hard. These two competitions expanded my knowledge and interest in maths.

The CAT and AMC competition helped me expand and develop my knowledge and passion for mathematics. Participating in the competition has increased my curiosity in it, making me want to compete in any further competitions.

Throughout the Australian Mathematics Competition, I greatly enjoyed all of the questions. It required me to use not only my critical thinking, but also my problem solving and overall mathematical knowledge. The question grew progressively harder; a perfect structure in order to ensure involvement from all participants.

For me, the final few questions were my favourite. I greatly enjoyed applying all of my skills to ultimately solve challenging questions. Overall, the AMC was not only great fun, but an amazing learning experience.

Maths competitions are fantastic opportunities to have fun in maths. Participating and solving maths problems using the application of maths skills and logical thinking are enjoyable experiences.

The maths competitions were quite the experience. They consisted of multiple-choice questions that challenged our minds in the best ways possible. I hope to do this again next year.

The recent math competitions have been a challenge but an exciting one, that all who attended are grateful they took on. I completed two of these, the CAT and the AMC, which I can say were quite difficult. However, I came out of them with a new experience and being able to solve harder and bigger problems. These gave an insight into what maths at a higher level would hold and I really enjoyed both competitions, however I would favour the CAT.

It was a great experience and I would recommend doing at least one competition to everyone.
