Principal's Report

Mrs Clare Healy

This week I was reminded how important it is to have a growth mindset. A growth mindset gives you the courage to say yes to new ideas and opportunities. When we are open to new experiences we tend to have wonderful adventures.  Over the last few weeks I have had the opportunity to investigate new ideas in our classrooms, and within the wider community.

As I went around the school and into classrooms this week I found Year 9 HSIE students working on a program designed by Mrs Stoessel. The lesson had students investigate the causes and effects of World Wars with an interactive website. What I saw was a rigorous and engaging learning experience for the students and their ideas and discussion has me wanting to see and hear more. I can’t wait to go back into Year 9 HSIE next week to see more.

On Wednesday I was given an opportunity to spend time with Year 10 at their year group Mass. It was lovely to take time to focus on our faith and the expression of it in our community. Faith in Action is foundational in the Social Justice initiatives of the College. Our Winter Appeal for St Vincent de Paul is so important as we move into the colder months. The Winter Appeal reminds us that there are people who live in very different circumstances to ourselves. If you would like to support this initiative with warm clothing, blankets, socks etc. we would appreciate it. You can drop your donations into our Front Office or send them in with your child.

Over the last few weeks we have had 32 students from Years 10, 11 and 12 complete their White Card training. I am grateful for the work Mr Healy has done to ensure we were able to offer this program for students at a reasonable price. Programs like this reinforce that there are different pathways to a successful Higher School Certificate. I was able to speak with Year 10 around the different pathways to a successful HSC - Academic Pathway, Traditional Pathway and Apprenticeship/Traineeship Pathway. Each pathway allows our students to be successful in areas where they have strengths. It is an exciting idea and one that we will continue to expand on as we move into the Year 11 Subject Selections 2023. Please keep an eye out for our Subject Selection Evening in the next few weeks. All our Year 10 parents and students are encouraged to attend.

Our focus on providing rich learning opportunities for our students always begins with an idea.

God Bless,

Clare Healy
