From the Principal

Doing more for Christ, doing more for others

‘St Benedict speaks about listening with the ears of our hearts. What better time than now to gift someone with a listening ear.
May we also learn to listen when we pray.’

It is great to have Primary and Secondary events gradually resuming at the College.

Our Secondary Magis Coordinator, Ms Daisy Farley advised the audience at this week’s Public Speaking grand final that Magis was about ‘doing more for Christ and doing more for others’. It was beautiful reminder of the importance of using our talents for the betterment of others.

The audience was entertained and informed on a variety of topics. Natalie Ong (Year 12) and Charlotte Nutt (Year 9) both spoke eloquently on the ‘wonderful and mysterious phenomena’ of dreams. Blake Kavanagh (Year 7) discussed his own family and the importance of ‘hard work and perseverance’ being keys to success. Ewa Krolik (Year 7) implored for a later age for juvenile detention and Richard McDiven (Year 7) provided compelling reasons for ‘pineapple to be placed on pizzas’. The topics were rich and diverse.

Sasha Pallis (Year 8) discussed the power of tennis and other sports to engage and uplift in her interesting discussion of the history of the Australian Open. Charlie Pronk (Year 8) spoke of early predictions of HG Wells and Jules Verne correctly anticipating a future world. Another Year 8, Oliver Syminton, spoke well on the very topical issues of allergies and immune systems. Jennifer Ong (Year 9) provided an amusing account of ‘rumours spiraling out of control’ and Tim Gardner (Year 12) described ‘sheep exports as a shameful stain on the country’.

Three former students Ben Negus, Alex Panther, Ben Linsten were our expert judges for the evening with a second event planned to allow other finalists to attend. In our current COVID world, it is important to be agile and flexible.

It was wonderful to listen and learn from the creativity of students across the year levels. Congratulations to all involved.

Shining a Light on a Better Future - Loreto webinar

This is a moment to dream big, to rethink our priorities – what we value, what we want, what we seek – and re-plan our future, committing to act in our daily life on what we have dreamed of. The time to act, and to act together, is now!
Pope Francis -(Laudato Si’ Reader: An Alliance of Care for Our Common Home)

On behalf of the Loreto network, we invite you to join us as we reflect on the most pressing ecological challenges of our time and how we, as a strong and diverse community, can respond to Pope Francis’ call 'to care for our Common Home' (Laudato Si). Hear from Loreto representatives sharing the ways in which they are working toward bringing this dream to life. Our hope is that their initiatives inspire us to reflect on the interconnectedness of all creation and the impact of our decisions on others and the natural environment. Together, we take action toward building our shared, bright future.
