Rising from the quagmire and following our passions

Year 12 boarder, Harry Mould, has been learning to fly for many years, and this week he continued his journey in following this passion. Harry not only has a passion but a drive to follow his flying dream, which, is not an easy task. Sticking with a passion and having a consistent interest takes energy, drive and personal motivation. All of which are challenged at some stage of life.

During COVID, we became unsettled and anxious about our future as we didn’t really know what was going to happen and when. Initially, I thought the COVID pandemic would last only a year! Well, that didn’t happen; not even close. So, over the time, we all began to settle into our home schooling, keeping in contact with others through social media, and a different routine at home. Our energy, drive and motivation were challenged. We couldn’t do what we wanted to do, meet who we wanted to meet, and our energy slowly declined. This was and is completely normal. Today, we are finding similar challenges but we are slowly rising out of a quagmire from the past two years, and reinvesting in our passions with a new drive, or reenergising our motivation into new areas of interest.

For students, these times are and will be challenging. As it will be for parents and teachers. In the Boarding House we have noticed these challenges, as you may have at home, and are supporting boarders to understand and acknowledge these tough times. This is a term to listen, guide and help our children rediscover their passion, redirect negative thought and seek to find those activities and time’s which energises them. Parents, teachers, staff and importantly our boarding brothers and sisters are integral for the harmony of a Boarding House. And, as we continue to rise out of the long tail COVID has presented, we will continue to work hard at discovering what gives us energy, drive and motivation.

I believe Harry Mould is a great example of reflecting on where you are, and how you can rediscover the passions and drive that energises you. Well done Harry.
